Plushie Makeover: First Time Custom With NerdECrafter

Hey guys! Today is a super exciting nw project, I've NEVER seen anyone do this before, Jackie from NerdEcrafter and I have decided to try customizing plushies for the first time. This is a lot like squishy makeovers, but with plushies instead!

Since this has never been done before, we are having to get very experimental. I ended up using a combination of techniques and materials to give my plushie a makeover. I will be doing some basic sewing, gluing, using felt, ribbon, and lots of fabric paint as usual! We decided to us Squishmallows to customize since they are so simple and really cute. Get ready for some cute plushie creations 😊

Hey! my name is Moriah (pronounced muh-rye-yuh 😂 ) and this is my channel....obviously. I'm 25 and like doing anything creative...and being snarky.....just a lil. I make a lot of decorating and painting videos here. I'm obsessed with editing and adding lil bits to my videos, so if that's not your thing....oof you may hate this haha. I paint on squishies, thrift store finds, and other random things I pick up. I also love to draw, but don't expect anything too skilled, I'm not the best at that haha. My family got those same pack of squish mallows. Looking back I can remember giving it too my aunt who likes dinosaurs and my cousins. I also remember little me running upstairs grabbing the three I liked {The Pink unicorn, the Pegasus, and the gray cat Edit: and the blue owl I stole from my brother XD} and bringing them back downstairs. The first one and the third one are my favorites I have a squishmellow obsession. I was scared she was gonna ruin them, but the third one was so precious. I love it best squishmellow, makeover ever.

A tip to get identical shapes for things like:
- Horns
- Limbs
- Body
- Face

Fold the felt! It works wonders for me. Bonus points if you cut a chunk of felt the size you want for your plush parts (Ik it sounds like you're wasting felt, but it's a small price to pay for identical shapes)

Edit: Also, another tip: Tie the thread on the needle (at the end duh) before you sew! This reduces the hassle of cutting off the loose end when you're done. I've been sewing since third grade (which was 5-6 years ago) no joke, and I just want to share this with you. If you want different feels for the plushie, buy an assorted array of cloths! I'm talking fur cloth (perfect for furry plushies & fursuits & craft in general), felt, heck, even SOCKS make great plushies!
I've learned a lot through the plushie sewing channel BudgetHobby (which was active one year ago, but it's a great plush tutorial channel to make your favorite characters), my mom (who is a really good sewer, sewing for god knows how long), and through my own trial & error! I've learned a lot of things and won't stop learning the ways of the sewing community even through my own trial & error.

Edit 2: OH, ALSO:
If you want to make moving limbs, have either good luck or a long needle (threaded), sew the limb opening shut, then attach the limb to the plushie using your needle & sew in a back & forth between sides motion

Edit 3: To PROPERLY do a ladder stitch, I recommend you do 5 stitches (back & forth) to attach the thing, then fold the raw edges & pull the string to make it look smooth. Also, to do a blanket stitch, move the needle through both sides of the fabric you're sewing until you see a loop, thread the needle through the loop & pull. Oh, also, when finished ladder stitching, stitch three times in the same spot, then on the fourth, wrap the thread around the needle, sew in the same spot pulling the knot, & sew again, but poke the needle away from the knot (like the back) and cut the thread once pulled; It hides the thread.
