Geez!
180 mph.
In 1985 I bought the top Camaro money could buy at the time.
An IROC-Z
It had a crazy 215 hp.
I traded an '83 Z-28 with the H.O. 5.0 with 5 speed at 190 hp.
My, how things have changed.

amazing shifts too!! Remember people that 6th gear was a tall overdrive which is why these cars get 30 mpg on the highway or more! We are never going that fast in America so this works well!!

6th gear overdrive brick wall, but they still haul ass. I loved my 18 with 10 speed. Cheers !

If that 6th gear wasnt so tall we'd get a lot more speed. Just need to add a little power to be able to get that 6th gear to go any higher.

Nice smooth shifting and you were cool and relaxed at 180 mph! Honestly, I thought the 60-130 time would be somewhat quicker than the ~10.5 sec it took, but still one hell of a ride!

6th gear was not intended for performance. It was intended for fuel economy. They been doing this forever. My old 94 z28 was the same way, along with the trans am, corvette and viper. It was a way to try to avoid the gas guzler tax. None of these cars could achieve top speed in 6th, because it just drops the engine rpm's so much, it's not making anywhere near it's max power. My 94 z28 would do 100 mph in 6th gear, at only 2500 rpm's. At 55, it was only like 1300 rpm's. I could average 28mpg with it on the highway. I'd like to see a redline at least 1k rpm's higher on these engines though.
