The 10L80 and 10R80 really are impressive transmissions. Hearing them bang out gears at higher speeds is really something to behold.

"Now ten speeds might soubd like overkill" Nah, they sound like bicycles

10 speed for the track. Cuz that's what this car was made to do

The question is where the overdrives start.

if every gear shift causes lose of speed, how does a ten speed transmission help it?

It's actually for emissions/efficiency while cruising.

It’s to keep the engine in its sweet spot for economy or performance. Engines engines like the LT4 that make 90 percent or more peak torque most of its rev range don’t benefit as much as the much narrower peaky 5.0 coyote. They want the engine to get to ideal cruising rpm’s as soon as possible and as often as possible. Acceleration is just a happy coincidence. The factory does all it can to smooth the feeling of shifting gears not the other way around. It’s not for your comfort it’s for drive train longevity and traction. There’s a reason anything they can control with the ecu vs driver commanded input they do. We’re lucky to still have the manual option for now. The manual does nothing for their bottom line or fleet averages. While fun the manual doesn’t beat a modern auto in any quantifiable metric.

They put a 10 speed in the ZL1 because they are putting the 10 speed in EVERYTHING! So more like they didn't have a choice.

Cool, but I still would go for the manual.

Automatics are nice in traffic or in hilly cities. For me in a vehicle with a list of Automatic or power features that include power steering, power brakes w/ABS, locking rear differential w/Traction control I lose connection to the car.
When i drive a vehicle I perfer a manual, the vehicle control gained over the traditional non d paddle shifting automatic transmission is enormous.

The 6 speed is engaging, enjoyable and easier to use.

I would love to have a 10 speed behind a F.I.Big Block Chevy about 540 cubic inch i think would be great never seen anybody do this yet

The new automatic Camaro has more gears than a semi truck 😂😂😂

I'm happy with my 2015 1LE. Never buy a auto. The ten speed transmissions are going to shit. Even with the trucks. Chevy messed up

I hear three disjointed concepts here that don’t really come together to explain anything. I know what he was trying to say, but this didn’t quite say it.

Yeah, but anyone with the drivers license can drive an automatic it takes real skill to drive a manual on track or on a dragstrip

Meh - I track the car for fun. I seriously doubt the A10 will make me that much faster around a road course. I'll stick with the authentic, three-pedal experience.

None of that is true. They reused the transmission from the trucks because it was cost efficient. Fords use the same one as well.
