Soap & Clay is a family owned business operating in Washington State, but started out online thanks to Mrs. Soap & Clay's kickass brother and his amazing web design skills. The business was started as a tribute to Mrs. Soap & Clay's grandmother, the OG maker in the family that cultivated everyone's love for the DIY life. The studio/retail shop opened in 2017 on 6th Ave in Tacoma, and immediately began teaching soap, bath bomb, lotion, and scrub classes to the makers and maker enthusiasts of the PNW. In 2019, the pottery studio opened as well, making the soap shop a busy place full of artistic energy every minute of the day.

Mrs. Soap & Clay has been featured on Business Spotlight, New Day Northwest, and was awarded a coveted place on the South Sound's 40 under 40 list in 2019, an award given to the most influential business people under the age of 40 each year. She cried when she walked up to the podium to accept the award. A lot.

Drawing from her chemistry background and her maker spirit, Mrs. Soap & Clay infuses her favorite things into her soapy designs and creates products that are fun to see, use, and learn to make. Stick around for this ride - she'll take you on a great one.

That green drop swirl is beautiful! Love that for sure. I’m so glad you specified “watermelon candy “ for the scent because I did try Cierra candle’s “garden watermelon “ FO and not a fan. Smells like fish even after cure time. I love every other sent I’ve tried from them though so all the love to Cierra candles absolutely! So yes I’ll be trying the Wayermelon candy FO for sure with watermelon purée, just not too much of it 😂. I love that you show the fails as well as the slam dunks on your channel, seeing what goes wrong is almost more helpful sometimes as seeing what goes right. Thank you ☺️

Thanks for showing a fail, also for bringing up the water amount, I got some really weird results when testing that with 5% beeswax in my oils! The 1:1 got so weird I added water to 1.5, and that took two weeks to saponify and harden! I think the beeswax doesn't react much with lye and at that percentage, caused things to solidify before they saponified and there wasn't enough water to spread the lye out enough through the oils... and I did have some seeping from one sample I don't think I mixed as well, it was nasty lye water seeping out, defiinitely not glycerine, definitely should not have touched that with bare hands... so I repeated the experiment again with 2% beeswax and the 1.5:1 took as long to firm up as the 3.5:1 did! I'm still waiting on everything to cure to figure out if any of the resulting soap bars show any difference aside from how much they shrink/how much mass they lose from water evaporation. Also, if you're ever doing testing like that and adding extra water or oils to a soap batter, warm them to the same temperature as the soap batter!

Oh, the weird smells of lye interacting with... pretty much everything. I find if I add honey to my lye water, the finished unscented soap smells like baked goods... I added lye to lumpy oat water once and hooooboy I had to open windows, it literally cooked the oats into a clump, and everything turned bright orange! Lye in coffee was also a very distinctive odour...

Ok it’s been like over the 8 week mark for curing for my watermelon soaps I used Cierra Candles “garden watermelon “ and it smells lovely now! Wow it just took a while but the fishy smell I couldn’t get past is totally gone now and it smells like a lovely garden watermelon! Especially because it soaped so very nicely for me! I’m so very pleased! Yay for Cierra Candles! Sometimes we just have to have some patience ❤️

Honestly… my medium wasn’t bad smelling to make soap with. It was strangely earthy.

Love the swirl in the rind. The bubble was definitely a great time! I mean straight away. I was so nervous about the copious amount of watermelon.😂 that’s why I just add milks, or purées as half of my water and blend into oils before adding lye mixture. I’m a gutless wench.😂

Will you be trying it again? I know you would perfect this if you tried again with the juice.
