How to play a drum roll in less than one minute with Atlanta Drum Academy .
The snare drum roll is usually the first thing that a non drummer tries to play and the first thing a drummer wants to learn. All you will need for this video is a pair of snare drum sticks and a drum or practice pad.

Remember a few key rules. Your stick must rebound to get the 2 notes out to create the snare drum roll. This is an advanced technique used on every drum line and marching band. If you really want to learn how to play drums, this is something you must master. Especially if you want if you have a desire or interested in making the drumline. This rudiment is helpful with byos solos, in HBCU, DCI or WGI drum lines and it will enhance your snare drum solo.

For those struggling, you have to let the drum stick bounce twice and stop it before the third bounce. It’s a skill you have to master to be able to do fast.

For those of you wondering how to do double strokes, here’s how:
Let your stick hit the drum (while maintaining a good fulcrum) and then let your stick “kick” out your back three fingers, then pull those fingers back into your hand. That gets you two notes in one stroke.

Keep in mind when you try to go faster it becomes more of an issue of fulcrum pressure more than anything. But in general, Practice makes perfect in drumming.

Great teacher, My Bro!! This is exactly how started on drums in 5th grade. All the Rudiments. Earned 1st Chair Snare. California State Honor Band 1968, SF BAY area. Started “gigging” at age 13. Then a funk band, age 14. Still busy, now in Phx . But Funk still my Fave. Age 72 on Christmas Day. I go till I Die. 😂😂😂

I love the idea Mr riles that you're putting it out there for all of us to learn from. I think drummers really enjoy sharing what they have learned with each other. So thank you for that. If I could add something that may help. When I was younger learning the rudiments I was taught start slow, increase the tempo a bit but remain in control of The strokes and then slow back down again. Slow to fast to slow. After a while the hands just kind of know what to do!! Anyway it has always helped me even to this day. Keep your chops up my friend and never stop playing the drums or music!! ❤️🥁

How I learned, just let the stick bounce if you're going as fast as a normal roll but individual doubles can help too
