Weather Report was founded in 1970 by musicians who had met whilst playing with Miles Davis. This Montreux Festival show from 1976 follows on from the release of their album "Black Market" but features the line-up that would release their most famous and successful album "Heavy Weather" in 1977. Previously only available as a bootleg of a TV broadcast, this new DVD release is fully authorized and has been restored to its full length.

No one could compete with them in their own space. Weather report was one of a kind. RIP departed Weather report members with deep respect and good wishes for those still living.

Joe Zawinul: Keyboards
Wayne Shorter: Sax
Jaco Pastorius: Bass
Alex Acuna: Drums
Manolo Badrena: Percussion, Voice

MalcoMix Fusion put the whole concert with the names of the players and the playlist with links, while "Montreux Jazz Festival" are not even able to mention the wonderful artists who played for them ... what a pity ...

Alex Acuna is a wonderful human being and one of the best drummers ever. I would love to meet him in person.

for you younger keyboard players -- notice when Zawinul plays the melody on the ARP 2600 that the keyboard scale is reversed. As he goes up, the notes go lower, as he goes down the notes go higher. Zawinul actually wrote the melody for Black Market with the ARP tuned this way. Inspiration can come from anywhere, always try crazy shit, don't be shy! (from a 40 year pro keyboard player)

Saw them in 78'- Jaco leaped in from somewhere out of the dark like a spaceman and started his solo.
Wayne played with a minimum of body movement and Zawinul looked like a pirate. There has never been a band like this again.

I was at this gig! My college band played just a few nights before with Clark Terry. Incredible music, amazing music and musicians, wonderful memories.

Alex Acuna! I could listen to him groove for days. Such a killer performance! I love his inspiring story of coming to the U.S. and how his career progressed from this great stepping stone. Such a nice guy, so colorful and fun.

Just, just epic!

Somehow, the 70s seemed to spawn a generation of musicians who were willing to play music like it was their last day on Earth

And boy, these guys are rockin' it ta **ck!!

Fabulous to hear, shame they don't get the credit they deserve. Listened to them 40 yrs ago and now showcase to friends

Wayne Shorter's soprano sax playing is so intense and beautiful at the same time.

This was the best Weather Report lineup. They really took off when Acuna moved from percussion to drums, and added Badrena on percussion. It's a shame that this lineup only lasted about a year.

this was such a brilliant time for gifted musicians and fusion jazz..there was a plethora of creativity in the early - mid 70's between Return to Forever, Jean-Luc Ponty, Billy Cobham, Pat Metheny, Al di Meola..lot of them ended working in the studio together as well...glad I was alive and able to see them perform in their prime -- another great chapter in musical history sorely missed..

I was introduced to the music of Weather Report in 1986 while stationed in Germany, and I was never the same again. It opened up a whole other world for me musically. VonDexter Montegut, thank you brother for broadening my horizons. I would say rest in peace, but I have no doubt you're up there jammin' with Joe Z. and Jaco P. as i type this... the jam session of your dreams.
