i actually think the system isn't as scared of Luigi as it pretends to be, nor as much as we like to think. Because the only thing they're really afraid of is true collective action and solidarity, but this whole thing just feeds into myths of individual action, so really, even if a few people copy him, it won't change anything.
To some extent, he's controlled opposition, and that CEO was a price that not only is the system totally cool with paying, but wasn't he replaced in like a week? They even still had the meeting he was on his way to. Like, even the system don't care about the people running it. Its wild.

My rent in my 4th floor walk up single bedroom in Queens went up to $2100 per month this year. 2 years ago when I moved in the apartment was $1900 per month. I am a City employee making 88k a year, after taxes, the cheapest health insurance/FSA/dental, pretax transit it's around $2100 every two weeks I take home. Curiously I looked on Street Easy for single bedroom apartments $2000 a month and under. Less than 200 apartments are available at that cost in Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, and the Bronx COMBINED. This is why homelessness has increased so rapidly. There are so few apartments and rent is SKYROCKETING. If rent is half my income and I make an 88k salary what hope does a single mother on minimum wage have??

Luigi gives a glimpse into what class solidarity could look like but...y’know, racism, sexism, etc etc

I really like your take on all of this. You're the first person I've seen actually address the woman who was set on fire in the subway, gave her background, and didn't villify the perpetrator just for being an immigrant. Thank you for humanizing the homeless, and homeless women in particular with what they have to go through, as someone who was once a homeless girl myself. Also I think that bringing up race in the discussion on class solidarity/consciousness that opened with the CEO murder makes the conversation more interesting and I think is very important. Overall, everything you said was very insightful and I really appreciate it.

There is some class solidarity about the injustices of healthcare, but I would agree it's not enough and even fragile. The same people who praised mangione villified a mentally ill black man who clearly needed help from the same damn system.

I am extremely heartened to hear you touch on how we talk about homeless people. And about why women might opt for the street vs the shelter.

2:30-2:45 - So True
If it was Jerome, it would have been he was lazy, and didn't want to work to pay his bills, not that the health insurance companies are Blood Starved Vampires

This video really highlights how broken the system is. Honestly, it reminds me of what I learned from Synfla’s book. It gave me such a clear perspective on how to recognize when something isn’t serving you and take meaningful action. If you’re feeling stuck or overwhelmed, I can’t recommend this book enough. ❤

The NYPD is the largest para military force on the planet. Yet they did absolutely nothing to stop or catch our favorite Italian plumber.

I grew up in Brooklyn but have lived in another state for decades. A few years ago when I went to NYC, I was shocked to see so many homeless women living in the subway . 😞. Hopefully, Adams will be in jail and NYC will get a new mayor

America is a whole beast. Love from South Africa...thank you for your work, you can imagine how tightly controlled the media is about the true American experience the further away from the USA. This is my window channel

I honestly hope they free him. mayor Adams is a corrupt weirdo who's trying to use this Scandal to hide the fact that he is a monster. Him meeting Luigi during his perp walk was absolutely disgusting.

It is pretty crazy how fast the dissolution of class solidarity happened as soon as people threw out the women being burnt on the subway.

It would be NICE if it indicated class solidarity.

Luigi Mangione doesn't represent "class solidarity." But he DOES possibly represent an awakening of class solidarity--a first step, given time.
