I worked full time. Went to college full time. Graduated debt free. No spring break. No vacations. Pay your debts..deadbeats. FJB

It wouldn't have "cancelled" the debt. It would have shifted the debt to responsible taxpayers.

"Cancel"??? There is no "canceling", taxpayers will have to pay it. Pay your own student loans, I paid for my education.

Such a false dichotomy on this debate - either you are for or against student loan debt forgiveness. How about just being against college being so absurdly unaffordable? Could think of that like student debt loan forgiveness *_for the future generations_* by simply making it more affordable for them to begin with

Having worked to support myself, including UC Berkeley costs, still I had $1500 to pay, 1971. Working full time afterwards still I didn't have that extra. Later my husband offered to pay it.
Like the group who expect "reparations " with ZERO PROOF who their 3 centuries ago relatives were, these debtors have ZERO PROOF they used the loans for tuition or text books. Numerous ones have been exposes for spending it on vacations, including Trump resorts and elective cosmetic procedures

It means that borrowers have been given a wake up call. Pay your own debts.

How it can effect you:

If you did not take out loans or paid them back you wont be forced to pay for the dregs of societies.

If you did take out loans and haven't paid it back, you will now have to pay back the loans you chose to take out.

It is not up to American Taxpayers to pay for your higher education. They already paid for your education K - 12 whether they had children or not. Pay for your own debts and choose a major that will pay for your education costs. It’s really that simple.

Why is student loans being treated differently from say a mortgage or credit cards or vehicle loans. I just don't get it. The only thing I agree with is college or university costs are outrageous but to further your career aspiration you have to pay the price

As person that was home schooled and a tax paying American. I am glad I don't have to pay someone else debt. When they get jobs paying way more than I can earn .

A civilized country would invest in its future and education would be free. That said, expecting other people to pay your debts shows a lack of responsibility.

It means my taxes won't pay for someone else's deadbeat debts.

I can't think of a group less deserving than student loan debtors.
The promise of college is a better, more financially rewarding life. Either college is worth it, or it isn't. If your degree isn't worth the tuition, then you didn't do your due diligence.
If your degree is, then you should be able to pay your loans.
