Every group is offended for one reason or another. You have civil unions give it a rest. The world is facing far greater trouble and mankind may not survive. Put it in perspective and lets begin to solve the problems that truly matter.

The majority of the country supports gay marriage according to the recent polls.
Tell me how many issues of equality over the past century have been passed by a majority vote? The courts have ALWAYS been the ones who have passed the measures for equality and America adapts. This country has a history of the "majority" being against equality, which is why Thomas Jefferson writes that the "rights of the minority should never be left to a majority vote". This is why we have the "lawmakers" decide.

Equal protection and all the benefits, rights and privileges that are bestowed upon some couples should not be put to a vote, so it doesn't matter how people vote. People will always vote for inequality, and like desegregation or interracial marriage, justice will set things right again.

I am gay and I also disagree with attacking her. However it IS laughable that everyone who uses the No Offense argument doesn't understand that when you attempt to deny a legally joined couple hundreds and hundreds of legal protections, it is anything BUT an inoffense to their relationship and to them as people.
Lots of things are "ancient" and "time tested". But as we grow more educated as a society, we learn about new ideas that can be integrated without a negative societal impact.

If gay marriage is denied however, gay couples are denied over 1100 privileges/benefits, leaving them legally vulnerable. Your partner dies? A family member can take your children, and thats after the fact that you might not be able to be in the hospital room when they die.
If the house was in the partners name, guess what? The will can be contested...the surviving partner can lose their home...

See what I mean? The other side has nothing to lose, we however, have ALOT to lose...

Illogical?, it is totally logical to prioritize issues on the bases of importance or the survival of mankind. This issue is very low on the list. Yes, it goes towards human happiness and that matters but we need to focus on saving our species.

Now don't get me wrong. I don't feel that Carrie should be persecuted, in fact, I kinda wish we didn't have to hear so much about her anymore. It doesn't matter to me what her beliefs on gay marriage are. However in regards to the noma's ideal that they are simply only "defending marriage", the problem is here...
If gay marriage is granted, no one "loses" anything. Not legally. It will not (and should not) force religions to accept it.
