**CORRECTION** The Sony 70-200mm F/2.8 GM II is not weather sealed either. They have simply boosted the moisture and dust resistance around all seams, butons and lens mount.

I normally film my daughter's ringette games (just normal game video) with the 24-105 F4 on my a7siii.
I did a hype video for them and threw on the GM 70-200 2.8 (mkii) and couldn't believe my eyes. Absolutely brilliant image. I always shoot through the viewfinder so it was astonishing even while filming.

Appreciate this E, I just shot the Floyd Mayweather vs Gotti fight and found the tamron a bit difficult in certain shots especially at ringside as it focused on the ropes often causing me to shoot further away than I wanted. Going to give the G-Master a try. The features you highlighted look like they’ll make a world of difference!

I've watched far too many comparisons with these lenses, but this has been the most effective at telling me exactly what I need. Thanks for making this!

I like how you show both lenses footage without us knowing! Prevents any bias.

I agree. The GM2 is worth the money. Main reasons i like it: internal zoom, variable aperture without clicks, OSS, light weight, fast focus

OSS 1-3 are not levels of intensity :P. 1 is normal stabilization, 2 is for panning - 3 is for erradic movements (so in a way for more intense ones).

This is the definitive comparison review for video shooters right here. Also, E is a handheld legend!

After watching the intro before, he told us which lens was which I actually guess correctly. The reason I was able to figure it out was for lens number one you’re having a hard time zooming out quickly enough in one of the shots, and if I remember correctly, that was one of the issues with the Tamron it had a pretty long zoom throw. There was also better fall off on the field as well on the Sony. The thing is, I had to really hunt for it. I believe the image stabilization, likely makes it worth it to buy the more expensive lens. If you’re professional videographer. Additionally, the extra 20 mm is also probably worth it as in Videography zooming in is a lot more difficult to maintain quality than just photography itself. Unless you’re shooting 8K, which there’s probably not very many people doing that at the moment. And if they are, I feel sorry for the wallets as storage can get expensive at that point in time.

The new Tamron G2 might be a better contender, though, as it has image stabilization has improved sharpness and is only $100 more expensive.

I think if they release an update 70-200 F4 will be the a alternative option. Yes you'll lose one stop of light but it will have the fast autofocus, will weigh less than the Tamron and probably be 2/3 the price of the GM. And with all the AI noise reduction options the 1 stop of light might not make a difference.

In the test video I record in HD 120fps or 4k 30fps?

Thanks for this video!.... I love how your comparison keeps the viewer guessing. I think I'll pick up the 2nd version of the Tamron lens and put the extra money towards the new A7c ii

Have you tried using a 135mm 1.8? Obviously not a lens you could use for an entire game but using clear image zoom does give some flexibility. I would imagine youd capture the most magical shots with it.

70-300 f/4.5-5.6 is good for my Sony a7iv? I’ll use this lens for soccer videos. I don’t know if 70-200 is good, I think is bored to see all shots at 200mm with always the same angle.

I knew the gmaster was lens 2 because of the sharpness like you mentioned. still good performance from tamron but glad I bought the gmaster. Love the work!

A thought which I'm certain you've tossed before: Why don't u get together with some of your fav sports videographer buddies & create your own online, "Sport's Videography College?" U could look at such online programs as Fulltime Filmmaker for possible approaches. One thing that u could do to make it different since u have so many sports contacts would be to get interviews & tips from coaches & players themselves as to what they have liked or disliked in sports videos shot in the past. 😎😎
