I cannot thank you enough for this tutorial!!! You have saved this very enthusiastic, yet sometimes techno-ignorant, elementary teacher! I'm reading aloud a story for my class during quarantine and didn't have a clue how to add the audio to my Google Slides file. This is perfect!

Considering just how long Audacity has been free, a video like this can be varying degrees of informing, all the way from "Oh that's a new feature" to "Holy shit how long was I gone"

Tip for folks. I had to go through a phone conversation the other day and match the levels of the person talking, sat next to the recording device (LOUD), with the person coming through the phone, which was on speakerphone sat next to the recording device (QUIET). The person sat next to the recording device was really loud but the phone person was really quiet. The only way I could do it, downside up as it seems, was to (not turn up the quiet person on the phone) turn down, in sections using the level dots tool, the loud person. Then when I had done and the levels sounded more equal and you could hear them both... Then I could turn up the track gain using the slider in the track in the left hand track box, and export that finished track to get a usable basis to do the next bit.
Which was .... Label tracks. There is an option to create a Label Track ( In Tracks>Add new> Label track) which allows you to put in markers in a separate track at specific times and type into them. It helps if you are zoomed in a bit to give yourself room. I used it to transcribe the call. You can then Export the Label Track as a TXT file, which you can copy then into a word doc or XL sheet.

An easier way of recording and stopping is

Recording: Shift + R
Stopping: Tab

Fantastic tutorial! You are the reason why my audio will be going to the next level. I was deeply annoyed with the fan background noise making it into one of my videos. Thank you!

Would like a tutorial on how to 1. import music files from the WeTransfer tool into Audacity. 2. Label tracks of a continuous dance track. Music must stay gapless 3. Import the updated labeled track into ITunes.

Recording multiple tracks ie rhythm, lead and vocals or different instruments would be great, but a clear simple introduction, thanks.
