Best of luck with your TBR! Sounds like you've got some really interesting reads; Crazy Rich Asians in particular!

Kafka in the shore was my first Murakami and I really enjoyed it! Hope you like it too! And as usual, I love your videos!

This is a great TBR! I love Japanese lit so I'm excited for you =)
I HIGHLY recommend you read Yoko Ogawa's short story collections (The Diving Pool or Revenge). I think they're even better than The Housekeeper and the Professor.
Both Murakami books are great, but Kafka is weirder. So I recommend that one!

I'm so glad to see an Asian American reader on Booktube~ I've always wanted to promote Asian American books, but I'm not experienced in analyzing literature.

Murakami has always been on my list, but after reading his first three books, I just got so tired of the sheep man... I liked his short stories more. But I hear Murakami's modern books are much better reads than his older works.

Thanks for telling me about the Keshiki collection! I'm definitely gonna explore that soon~

Thank you so much for letting us know about the Keshiki Collection! I just ordered s set from the publisher. I'm excited that you're getting back into Murakami as well – Kafka on the Shore is one of, if not the best work of his, in my opinion. If you want a quieter read, go for Sputnik Sweetheart; if you want a load of mysterious and unexplainable happenings, Kafka on the Shore would be your book.

I've been thinking about Crazy Rich Asians lately, mostly because it seems like a great summer read.

The Keshiki collections sounds very intriguing! I would love to hear your thoughts on them if/when you read them! I definitely liked Kafka much more than Sputnik Sweetheart, but it's been a while since I read both so I might think differently now. Five Came Back also sound really interesting!

I just read The Housekeeper and the Professor at the beginning of the month and enjoyed it. I really love Ogawa's writing style; I've read everything else that's been translated from her works.
I haven't read any of those Murakami novels, but right now I'm reading 1Q84 and really enjoying it. Have you read that one? It's funny how you say Murakami feels like a summer author to you...to me end of fall/winter feels like the perfect time to read Murakami, which is why now as I'm reading 1Q84 I feel the need to turn the AC really low and make it cold to get under covers lol.
I have never heard of The Keshiki Collection, but really looking forward to your thoughts on it...it sounds like something right up my alley.
Do you do buddy-reads by the way? I have a copy of Love in the Time of Cholera which intimidates me so much because of the magical realism and would probably be perfect buddy-read material :) .

That is a serious stack! Love in the Time of Cholera is one of those books that has been on my "someday list" forever. I'd be interested in hearing your opinions when you get to it.

I'm probably on the "unpopular opinion side" with murakami but I hated Sputnik Sweetheart. I've read all of his novels thusfar and SS was my least favorite - so I would definitely recommend going for Kafka!

Ambitious summer! Kwan is fun in a fantasy kind of way, except it's all real -- audio book also fun -- those voices -- I can still hear them! Roth shouldn't be intimidating, great writer, but yeah I sort of avoid him somehow & shouldn't ... Kafka strange and weird, even for Murakami (retelling of Oedipus sort of, with cats) & Sputnik more straightforward & less weird (tho still odd, of course), Cholera would be brilliant if 2/3 as long (just my opinion) & I hope you read Magical Thinking because it's on my shelf & I'd like some incentive to read it. Good luck, looks like great summer reading! You've just got to feel the need to read!

I saw The Keshiki Collection when I was book browsing in London. I didn't actually end up buying any of those books, but I was super intrigued by them, and I would love to hear your thoughts :)

Philip Roth really is intimidating. No pressure or anything. :/
