After tracking mine for 6 months before purchase, I took the plunge and bought my 5.0L Supercharged XK Dynamic R (2015) in April 2024.

31k from new, 4000 miles per annum put on by the previous owner and meticulously cared for.

My commute is a 50 mile round trip through national speed limit, rural and quiet country roads.

23.9 mpg over my 8000 miles since ownership. It’ll do circa 12k per annum with me and so far, zero cost other than fuel, insurance and tax.

First service & MOT coming up in December under my ownership, as well as a thorough detail and ceramic coating protecting it from the elements.

An absolute weapon of a car, snarling its way around and turning heads wherever it is.

If it doesn’t give you whiplash from the blistering speed, it certainly will craning your neck looking at its many angles as you walk away from yet another spirited drive!

Phenomenal car.

Your right about the gear lever, something more satisfying about shifting than twiddling a knob

Bought a 2014 5.0 XKR in feb for a Euro roadtrip (via autobahn)… incredible car, faster than road users expect and very happy at speed… even my other half was comfortable driving it 130mph+ (her daily is a 60hp VW Up!). Managed to top it out at 175mph. Can’t get better daily useable performance for £20k.

Car was bought well maintained, but I am all for preventative maintenance… this year I’ve spent £400 on subframe corrosion protection, £900 on water pump and £1500 on full service, MOT, gearbox service, diff service and brake fluid renewal. Looking forward to years more happy motoring with it. I am budgeting for £3-4k a year to keep it running, but at this rate I might run out of preventive maintenance and still have change to spare… (touch wood)

Love the channel, keep it up!

I've owned a 2011 XKR 5.0 supercharged converible for 9 years and done 23, 000 miles in it. It's now done 78, 000 in total. I average 25mpg on a long trip (say 200 miles) including motorways but most of my driving is short trip, semi-rural stuff where it drops to 17 or 18 mpg. Over the time that I've owned it my overall average is 18mpg (yes, I'm a nerd who records all fill ups and mileage) but that includes some spirited bursts just to hear the glorious sound of that V8 engine and exhaust. It's been one of the most reliable cars I have ever owned, the only issues I've had have been with the pedestrian safety system sensors and a replacement air conditioning condensor. Get some decent tyres (I'm on Michelin Pilot Sport 4S) or you'll lose the back end in the wet. I bought it with Dunlop Sport Maxx on it but the Michelins are far better.

I run 2 4.2 XKRs, amongst others, had the coupe for 10 years, the convertible for 6, both now on 135K miles. All the coupe has needed were some sport cats when an one original collapsed, and that really makes a difference to how it performs. The convertible is now plagued by electrical faults because my wife insists on driving it in the rain with the roof down, im just going to buy another one to replace it, they are epic.
As for dadcars, back in the 80's my two girls were put in a Capri 2.8i, Xr2, Xjs, several MGB's and even an Aston Martin DBV8 to name but a few.

I've had a 2007 4.2 XK DHC and now have a 2014 5.0 XK DHC.
The 4.2 is fine and has a noticeably better ride than the 5.0 - Jaguar changed the suspension set up on the 5.0.
The 4.2 seats, sit lower in the car (due to less electronics underneath them) so taller drivers will have more headroom in the earlier cars.
The 5.0 has more noticeable power but is less economical - don't believe Jaguar's figures. The 5.0 uses about 5% more fuel = 25mpg av.
The 5.0 has a more plush, comfortable interior and has less squeaks - probably slightly better screwed together.
Neither car had big repairs in 15 years of ownership. Tyres, discs, pads, filters, batteries etc are 'consumable' and about the same cost for both cars.
Only problems: Front pedestrian sensors replaced, windscreen/headlight washer pump and seat control module re-set.
Annual service/maintenance costs were the same, about £500, from a specialist garage (not main dealer).
Tips - Make sure the battery is in good condition and use a charger/conditioner - you get electronic gremlins if you don't.
Fit Michelin Pilot Sport tyres - much better than the standard Dunlops - and up-size them for a better ride. I have 265/35R20 (front) and 295/30R20 (rear).
Check the underside for rust and they do corrode/bubble where aluminium meets steel fixings, although it's not expensive to repair.

We have a 2007 XKR 4.2 convertible since 2020, we bought it from a jaguar dealer with 100.000km (60k miles), one owner (maintained always in the same dealer where we bought it) and we paid 29k€ here in Spain. It is in perfect shape, not a single leather wrinkle nor a single scratch. It’s been by far the car I enjoyed the most (And I still have my old M3 Cabrio, my S8 and my XJR x356). We always maintain it yearly on the jaguar dealer (the same where we bought it) and we don’t spend more than 1200-1400€ on average (16.000km/year) for the service. The most expensive service was 2000€ because we had to replace one rear window regulator, and also had to replace front discs and pads after a trip to Nurburgring. I think you cannot get something this special for less. It’s powerful, it’s beautiful and it feels really special every time we drive it despite not being the most sporty thing out there. Crossing Europe on it is just a joy.

I have had of these 5.0 litre supercharged loved them, you just have to accept more smiles to the gallon than miles.

5.0 Xj supersport, from new to 65, 000 miles 5yrs. Faultless bar a dodgy coolant temp sensor in first month. Fastest thing around in 2011 but averaged 16mpg! Around 240 miles to a tank 😂

Supercharged all the way, still have the older shape convertible. 4.2 engines are mostly bullet proof. The 5.0 reintroduced chain and water pump issues. Oh and the screen runs on Chimera Linux as I had to reinstall the software on my mums before she sold it.

I've got a 2010 5.0 XKR at the moment. I agree with you entirely that, pound for pound, its the ultimate Dad car. Pace and grace but not much space. Had it since November last year and touch wood, it hasn't cost me anything yet (apart from an entirely optional £350 for an exhaust mod at PCW, which is, by the way, completely brilliant and sounds amazing). Service and MOT due in Nov so let's tend to go through cars quite quickly but this one feels like a keeper.

In April I bought a 2007 4.2 XKR Convertible on 49k from a reputable classic dealer in Surrey for £17k. It's been superb. I put an Adamesh exhaust on the back, and did the supercharger pulley and remap, and now it puts out the same figures as the 5.0 XKR but with a better ride, and slightly lower running costs. It's stupidly rapid but also so very comfortable, and I am 6'8 tall!

I love the XK and XJ, very sad to see Jaguar struggling the way it is. As a dad of five kids, even a 5 seater couldn't do the school run, so a lot of us US-based dads look to the big SUVs/real offroaders as dad cars that can do daily duty but can give you an onramp thrill. I remember an older video on the channel about a dad with a Lamborghini who likes to treat his daughters to special occasions for 1 on 1 time. I like to do that with my kids with my Alfa Romeo Spider. Each one gets a turn doing something special with dad as time allows. Thank you for the content and the support for gearhead fathers everywhere.

I bought a 06 4.2 na in May. Awesome car but has cost me £2k since I have had it but that included a set of tyres, (service gearbox and engine) - oh and infamous ‘duckbill’. 120k miles, average condition but this is perfect. It will be kept outside and driven all year round whereas a pristine condition one may make entice over pampering. The NA engine is glorious with plenty of power to have fun but also a beautiful cruiser. My advice… get one.

Another great video! Do you remember I mentioned a month ago on another video buying a Jaguar XE on a council estate and you asked to let you know how I was getting on with it? Well I’m selling it! Buying an XF estate instead, I just covert that Sportbrake shape and practicality too much with 2 kids!

If there was a MumCars channel, I'm sure you would be accused of corrupting all dads. Good for you, go for it.
