Even if you fail the final speech check or completely avoid the romance path, the "second chance" conversation will trigger occasionally, here’s one for Cait:

Cait is the only companion you can friendzone. If you hit the romance option then say never mind. All the other characters act like you were hitting on them and they just wanna be friends, except cait lol

I think the "Romance" option being a charisma skill check is stupid. Cait says that she actually loves you she hopes that you love her too and you can fail it and she is like nah maybe later wtf

oh, i remember (unsurprisingly) failing that charisma check with my 1 charisma character bunch of times before i finally got her. charisma check actually weakens with each subsequent attempts, it went from red to white pink or something before she gave in.
