The right answer….. is do what ever the hell you want!

C has weird balance. You don't make composition decisions over one rule like "leading lines" mate. You take a look at the overall weights and movements of the lines and shapes.

I feel like the curviness of the cliff also snakes the eye towards the lighthouse in option A

The answer is that you go with what you think is good for you. I hate how these “pro” photographers tell you that there should be a hard rule in photography when there really isnt. Yes leading lines is a good concept but all it is is one of the possible techniques and guides you can follow to get you better composition.

Option A reads a lot better, and has stronger lead lines to your subject than C.
So if that's your argument for why you should choose C, then you should choose A.

A has a stronger subject and in my opinion, a better story. But it's also
C, the subject gets overpowered by the contrast and chaos of the foreground. But is still an interest story about this cliff with a lighthouse.

Anyway, I think the lesson should be to choose the best for the story you want to tell with your photo.

Neither choice is wrong. They just read totally different, and convey different stories.

All of the above. They all have their points. Personally I liked A best

I would agree with C but more because the lighthouse would tell the story of its purpose. A crops a lot of the sea which I personally like in lighthouse shots and B on a personal note I don’t like subjects that centered

Light houses, send their light out to ships at sea, so putting the lighthouse on the left includes more of the sea. If you could include a ship on the sea, even better.

Lighthouses send their light out to ships at sea, so include a lot of the sea, so left side is still best.

You could say the same of the road witch makes more sense the lighthouse feels pressured by the massive blue sea so it makes it less mysterieus and less grand

Can i ask is that road on A not a leading line?

The subject matter dictates composition. The lighthouse functions to help ships navigate at night. It does not function to light up the landscape. Hence, the left side is not necessarily about the leading line but the subject matter and meaning about the function of a lighthouse.

I thought you would say “none of the above” again, and say on the other side of the shore!!! Good, Now you're learning!

Left side feels unbalanced to me, and definitely not in the middle. Option A seems best in this case, the line from that structure on the left also leads to the lighthouse, which is slightly elevated, giving the lighthouse importance.

Depends on the subject your after but yeah directing lines and rule of thirds

Picked C because although the lighthouse is the subject of the photo, I would like to capture the scene it’s in. The purpose of the lighthouse is to guide ships from the ocean, including the water makes for a greater scene overall as the lighthouse has more to do with water than land 🌊

B is the grade that I got in english class.

I felt A has a lot of things going on, B is eh while C is a good choice since it focuses a lot more on the lighthouse
