China Traffic. Could you drive in china? Must see

If you are planning on going to China and thinking of driving there this video will give you an idea of what to expect.
This video was shot in China in a town in Cangnan county. November 2013.

it is a small, by Chinese standards, town, so there is no traffic lights on intersections like this one.
Every time i go to china i am in the state of shock and owe from the way they drive!
You can see that no-one backed down, they only move forward no matter how dense the gridlock is. Even a police car was calmly pushing through the gridlock. They enter the intersection full speed and proceed until about an inch from crushing into another car or biker.
In any american city driving like that would cause a lot of road rage, but for Chinese this is a routine affair, nothing special and nothing to worry about...
I never saw anyone getting upset, yelling or flipping an equivalent of a "bird".

NEWS: 2014 - November. This video was featured in a Japanese TV program.

To make it easier, they should just wire the horn so it goes off every time you hit the gas.

You just have to be a Chinese to drive in China. Srsly, I went to China to visit my relatives and almost have a heart attack driving in there, and my relatives was like: "just be more Chinese, and then you will know how to drive". I tried, and it worked! The problem is as soon as I got back to Toronto, I got 3 tickets in one month.

People with new driver's licenses would freak out and piss their pants.

This should be turned into a 24/7 livestream

Thank god for traffic lights.

The rule of thumb seems to be, if there is an opening, get in it! No matter how bad the gridlock is.

The horns help move traffic along, obviously.

Not a single accident or fender bender. Very tolerant, even when they were temporarily gridlocked, no got out and started screaming at the other drivers.

I worked in this town for a year. Traffic is nuts. My girlfriend is a Chinese. Kept saying to her I can't understand how this works. In the bus you're like: oh shit he's going to hit that car, and then the driver misses by an inch at full speed while nobody is even looking at the bus....
Also honking the horn doesn't mean the same thing as in the west. In China it means: "Hey here I am, keep me in mind."

this should be renamed "could you sleep in china?"

Good times! I used to ride an electric trike in Linyi, Shandong Province. This really takes me back. Awesome. It's not that hard. First, you have to have 360-degree vision. And then you must always mind the hierarchy. Buses first, then trucks, then black cars, then Mercedes and BMWs, then all the other cars, then bikes, then hand-pushed or -pulled carts and pedestrians. Piece of cake.

Got my license (I'm American) and drove there in the summer of 2011 around Shanghai, from Shanghai to Qingdao and to a village in Shandong province.  Wasn't too bad, nothing like what you see here in this video, but one time I got lost looking for a shortcut to a village and there were no signs whatsoever.  None.  It was complete guesswork, looking at where the sun was in the sky and going from there.  Finally found the way back to the main road and found the village, but had no idea how I did it...

Just bought a brand new Samsung 55" 4K UHD flatscreen and this is the first video I watched with it! Now I feel like I'm looking out the window of a chinese apartment!

They indeed need some traffic lights there.

Those are some scarily competent drivers; the cars are so close and not one single bump... damn.

Eh, this is why I'm a proponent of right-of-way signs, where some stretches of road have priority. It neatly solves the question of "who the hell has the right of way now?". Or traffic lights. They do that too...

I'm just sitting here waiting for a car accident to happen in this video.

I can’t believe how much anxiety watching some of this video was giving me.

This intersection works, but can you imagine living in an apartment in the city ( honk, honk, honk, honk, honk ) day and night. Dear Lord.
