Announcing the winner of the Modifi3D Tool!

NMW Update - and big thanks to Rode for providing the microphone.

Aurarum printing issues, PLA filament becomes very brittle?

Trinus is actually a Panowin F1? Is this a problem?

Great video as always Angus.

That Rode mic made an awesome difference. Fantastic.

Thanks for sharing this, Angus. I have learned living in the states in Las Vegas that a sealed container is the only way to go to store filament. I have had a few fails from dried out PLA that just didn't work or print right at all. Keep up the great content! Sorry to hear the Trinus was a clone of sorts, really liked that printers design and mechanics.

I think the patreon stream sounds like an awesome idea. You definitely get slammed during the regular streams. Great idea!

Thanks for the honest step back. It's interesting - I only print with e-sun as I am printing for function, not beauty, but I've never had issues with it. Wnd as it looks from your comments, while beimg the cheapest it may mot be the worst choice ;)

2:29... Sounds much better with the new Mic Angus.
What would happen if you placed the PLA filament in a humid environment for a period of time ?? We use Ty-Raps in the shop and when we don't use them for a quite a while and stored in a low humidity stock room they dry out and become brittle and break.
We boil them in water for 20 minutes and the come back to new condition. A trick I learned from my younger days with dried out nylon RC propellers.

I too am experiencing brittle Aurarum filament. I will say, the stuff I have / had PRINTS fine and produced a quality model, even when compared to other filaments. The PROBLEM I have is every single time I use it (yes, every time) the filament snaps at where it goes into the extruder. This means it's a paint to have to have to warm up the machine, take it out, snap off the rest of the roll that has become brittle, and insert it into the machine. I won't use the filament anymore because of this. I asked Aurimas in a chat a while back, and he said my rolls are old (they are from the 8" kit days) and the new formulation is better. I guess it's not? I'm more than happy to give some new rolls a go if he wanted to send some my way, but, there you have it.

Hi Angus

Great channel

Even some of the best filaments go brittle. I use Colorfabb PLA/PHA and used to stock a huge range of colours - well after a year or so they are brittle and clog .4mm nozzles, but will work ok on .65 nozzles, so just go into my prototyping pile. Now I tend to buy 'just in time' so that the filament is 'fresher' - this has happened mainly on white filament, but does seem to affect most colours. A bit gutting when it is a 2Kg reel of filament :(

Strangely the models that I print with it are no less strong, just a bit more problematic to print and don't exhibit any snapping (I print bicycle clips!)

I have developed a few models to use up these filaments - resin mixing cups, plant pot trays, plant pot holders, that I just print lots of to use up 'older' filament through a bigger nozzle.

Top job Angus, pledged on patreon. Keep em coming chap. Just ordered myself a Wombot Exlilis, any recommendations for an ABS filament for that printer?

Great video, I also had some problem some time with the verbatim PLA first Gen which I did a review on. the service I got from verbatim was great, they replaced all my filament with the second gen, and to date I have not had problems. I saw you used verbatim some time back why did you move over to the esun ?

Picked up some Aurarum PLA & ABS last week, not fragile to start out with at least and works well. I guess as with most filaments ... use it, don't warehouse it (no offence to anyone). Maybe try a ziplock bad with Silica if its a few weeks between use ? might be worth seeing if that will make a difference.

Oh my! Sorry to hear you been assaulted with so much drama man! Talk about being blind sighted..
Been hearing that about Aurarum filaments recently.. I have PLA's that have been sitting open for upwards of 2years in no *special* storage conditions that isn't even that brittle.

If the filament prints good that's good for me.

I find different PLA brands do vary in terms of stiffness after sitting. pure pla seems to be the worst while i have dug out 4 month old colorfabb and its worked fine. so for me part of how good a filament is how does it store in the long run.

All the filament from I've gotten from Aurarum gets brittle over time. I assumed it was normal because I leave it uncovered and my room gets very cold. However, only about 10-15 inches of the filament gets brittle, and the rest is completely fine. Oddly,  I haven't experienced this with chinese PLA.

which would you suggest PLA or ABS because i need to buy a bit more Black filament for my 3dPrinter
