If there had been more ladies that looked like Lauren Holly in the Navy I would not have gotten out in 1985!

A retired admiral said that "Down Periscope" was a realistic portrayal of life on a submarine, both the battle readiness and the hijinks. Having this song in the closing credits was brilliant - I don't think many people thought the Village People were still a band.

This song came out just as I was going into the Navy in 1979.

My husband and I were just watching this movie tonight. We love to quote the movie to each other. Our 7 year old daughter was in the room when this song came on, and she was dancing. Made her Mama proud.

It's one of the best Kelsey Grammar movies ever.

My dad loves this movie. (He’s a Marine veteran, so he was Navy-adjacent.) I miss military comedies. They pretty much disappeared after 9/11 and the War on Terror.

Edited to add: My first time seeing Harland Williams in a movie was in “RocketMan”, but he and all of his other co-stars in this movie are all quite entertaining in their own ways.

I'd totally forgotten about this video. Definitely better than the original. Good movie too.

Best recruitment drive ever! My idea in 1979 too! Movie, and they all volunteered for a do over! Commodore Glen Collins. Aye aye what? That’s better or you go overboard. Like my flag? William Kidd at my service, as I am King.

This film came out while I was "in the Navy" (VFA151). 'Operation Petticoat' may be the funniest Navy service comedy I've seen, but this one is a close runner-up.
Rob Schneider as the XO was hilarious. My squadron mate and I were rolling. I looked at Ash and said "Lieutenant Hirschman" to which he immediately agreed. 😂

Love this movie. The critics can move on.

When this song came out, the Navy used the Village People in a recruiting commercial. When they found out that the VP were gay icons, they pulled that commercial fast. 😂

Ray Simpson was once the lead singer of Village People after the original lead singer, Victor Willis left in 1979 for his solo career. He's in that music vid and he's just like Willis before 1979.

Great movie.

Like "Operation Petticoat" and "The Wackiest Ship in the Army, " but raunchier and funnier.
