Master the 13th in 6 steps!

Показать описание
The 13th can sound a bit daunting and complex if you are new to Jazz.
However it is an interesting diatonic sound on a dominant 7th chord,
that is really essential to know deeply if we are serious about playing
Jazz music.
But how can we go about learning and incorporating this sound?
In this video Jazzduets shows a fail-safe step by step method for
practicing the 13th.
0:00 - start
0:10 - Step 1 - play the root, the b7, the Major 3rd and 13th around the cycle of 4ths/5ths.
0:36 - Step 2 - bathe your ears playing the 13th alone on the cycle of 5ths....
0:52 - Step 3 - Write out or improvise Licks that start on the 13th of each Dom 7th chord…
1:16 - Step 4 - Precede the 13th via the 2 chromatic approach notes
1:40 - Step 5 - Precede the 13th licks via the 2 chromatic approach notes
2:12 - Step 6 - target the 13th licks by 3 chromatic approach notes.
My name is Nick Homes. I was, and still am a non genius musician who struggled for many years to find out the secrets of jazz playing. Throughout 35 years of playing, and obsessive investigation I have focussed on building systems of learning for myself and students so they can improve , and reach their goals with the highest probability.
