Kidnapping Self Defense & Escape Technique

To avoid getting kidnapped is more so a proper state of mind, than it is a physical self defense technique. If you're traveling abroad, then avoid drinking too much, don't place your trust in strangers, keep your eyes on your beverage, and be aware of your surroundings. In the scenario where someone is trying to force you into a building or a car, then you must fight for your life. Prove that you're a force to reckon with, and that they made a huge mistake trying to abduct you! Elbow, punch, palm strike, bite, kick, scratch -- aiming to maim your attacker.

I like the fact that Shane has guests come and teach us Viewers because it shows Shane is not a big Know-It-All and that he learns from other people too. Thanks for the video Shane!

This is a really fun technique we practice often in krav maga.
Keypoint: make sure your bicep connects with your ear before you make the turn. It will injure or break the opponent's wrist. Additionally, if the attacker is very strong, it serves as an extra precaution to ensure the release.

Ive trained this technique for a few years without it being explained to me that the forward momentum negates the plucking technique. Thanks for enlightening me :-)

Yo Shane you might not remember me but I wrote you on Twitter in September telling you I was gonna have surgery on my spine and I asked you when I could train again and you said 'that's a question for a doctor' well I've been given some great news they said that on the 27th they're gonna see if I can train again and I've been watching your videos trying to take in some knowledge about self defence and fighting etc and in about a week I can finally put some of those tips to the test

So how many abductors have been seen grabbing someone like this in reality?
This is a position training hold for martial arts. It’s used like the open hand karate chop in systems, like aikido, to simulate a knife. This positions may have some benefits, but not much in reality. Abductions have people grabbed by one arm while the other arm is wrapped around to lift and pull the kid. Hair and clothing that is locked and solid like belts, suspenders, hoodies and collars. I do agree that this technique will cause effective damage with plenty of hours of training. Even then those techniques will not really work in a real kidnapping situation if your talking about small girls, kids and toddlers. These are sport fighting skills. The goal here in this video is to engage and try to knock someone out rather than injure and escape. As you know these techniques could easily be rendered useless if you consider size, strength and weight... a fly weight against a super heavy weight. Plus, the technique that I think is bad self defense is that shoulder elbow strike/grip break. It never works against a stronger, determined person.
Yes, we’ve all been told this technique works in karate class, but it should simply be taught as a hand positioning or awareness drill. Not as a real technique for abduction or kidnapping. Again, I have to have a love/hate relationship with sport fighting vs Self defense. You need both skills. A good empty hand skill set is highly advised but often leads to worse scenarios than intended because the person turns to engage and win the fight, allowing time for the situation to escalate. In self defense, if you are engaged you need to immediately cause injury. Punches don’t do that well. Finding something within reach as a force multiplier, scratching the eyes and face. And knowing some injury targets would be a good add on.
Anyways Shane. I love your channel. You do some great training, but all I’ve seen are bar brawlers, street fighter techniques, sport fighting etc. they are all really awesome, but take years and time on the mat do be barely decent.
I would love to collaborate with you on a self defense video. Let me know if you’d be interested.
I hope to hear back from you.
