In this video Julian demonstrates the routing features of the Routing Folder including how to replace submixes created using Aux Inputs and how to create and automatically route member tracks through the folder track and how and why you might choose to only route some of those tracks through the Folder Track.

Julian,

I don't know if its the unfamiliarity, but what you did in the end there with the Kicks seems like I would spend too much time trying to figure out my mix.I'll keep rewatching so I learn the technique and see if its applicable for me.

I do like the idea of basic folders, or routing folders, because you can quickly unclutter and organize your mix. The routing folder lets you "root" (sorry couldn't resist) to aux tracks which would be very useful.

I also like the idea of also assigning all the tracks in a basic folder to a group. With them in a group, you can create a VCA to control their relative level in the mix. You can also create a basic folder over the VCAs using the group (to uncluttered), or a routing folder over the vCAs using the group (to uncluttered and route to aux tracks).

I'm working out in my head how routing folders would with send effects for get a final mix, but one step at a time. Thank you for helping me learn. I don't like the band KISS, but I like the unfolded acronym (see what I did there ? ).

Nice explanation. But why if i have a drum routing folder with all drum tracks routed thru it as in your example, if i try to mute the snare for example, the whole kit is muted? Thanks
