Another great video and perfect explanation of why and why not for a home user. I'm so glad I found your channel. Something about your voice, calm and confident, takes the fear out of the project.

One more thought... I read through Synology's manual for ABB ( Active Backup for Business Administrator's Guide ) for doing incremental backups from a Windows PC. On Page 11 it advises to be sure to turn on the Volume Shadow Copy service on your PC. This is to ensure that Changed Block Tracking that Synology uses to identify the changed blocks between snapshots and transfer only those changed blocks.

"The CBT technology adopted in Active Backup for Business leverages VSS to take snapshots for devices and
identify the changed block between snapshots. To ensure CBT is functioning well, please make sure Microsoft
Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) on each protected device has been turned on. VSS belongs to Microsoft's
built-in technology, and thus it can avoid performance interference while Active Backup for Business is performing
the CBT technology. After the first full backup, the CBT technology allows each device to transfer only the
changed block to your NAS. Therefore, it helps you to save the bandwidth resource and speeds up the process of
backing up."

Encrypting the ActiveBackup folder would have been nice

Nice and very clear tutorial, thanks.
I learned we can upgrade clients with the main control panel, that's great and helpful.

Hey man! Love the videos! You have been a big part of helping me setup a NAS for a local business saving them crazy monthly fees.

I have noticed that two of the laptops I setup keeping missing the scheduled backup times due to various times they are offline and travelling. What’s the best way to overcome that? Set multiple backup times per day? Or is there a function to allow it to backup the next time the laptop is online?

After entering the command sudo abb-cli -c it asks for credentials. I enter those and get an error message as follows "Internet error. Please check your Internet connection. If the problem remains, please contact the administrator to check the Internet status of the server. Authentication failed" Using it in Linux. What do I need to check. Thanks

Active backup for business is absolutely great. their pc backup and restore architecture is as solid as any other backup software on the market. their vmware backup...absolutely solid! for home users...hands down one of the best backup solutions around...and most importantly, if you already have a Synology NAS...its free!

I think Synology getting into backup business is very suitable because to store backup files, u need lots of storage in central location and NAS is very important when u want to centrally manage all of ur files including backup files.

Just my opinion

Hey wundertech, im struggling and hope you have an idea. I have Hyper V running on a normal windows 10 box in a workgroup. I have it all setup and can connect to the hyper v server from Hyper V Manger on other pcs on my network without issues but I can not get the Nas to connect. Tried every trick I could find. I guess my question is does it have to be a server OS and Domain Joined?

Using ABB to backup 100% of two PCs. Also want Synology Drive. Wouldn't that almost double the file space used having ABB backup files (and system config) and Drive backing up all files?

If only incremental changes are being backed up from my PC, why are each of my backup files the same size ? I did check the deduplication as you showed and there is some space reported as being saved but I would have expected that subsequent backup files would have been smaller than the first full backup.
