Playing KORG NAUTILUS and YAMAHA MODX pt1

I played the KORG NAUTILUS and YAMAHA MODX Synthesizer Workstation Keyboards for 30 minutes each. Here are the highlight moments. I browsed through the presets somewhat randomly looking for inspiring patches and improvised to whatever first fame to mind. In this video we focus on the synth style sound category and in the next video we will explore acoustic sounds, pianos, organs and orchestral. After more upcoming demo videos I'll give my review and comparison of the NAUTILUS vs the MODX. I hope this video is helpful if you are choosing to purchase one of these as it demos the sound character and quality of each keyboard.

Two great instruments. We are lucky to live on these times, with that musical power at our fingertips! 👍🎹🎹🎹

Nautilus - "Play me, mere mortal, and be amazed by my sonic power!"... MODX - "Hey chill bro, just press some chords or whatever, and lemme play some trippy arps for you!"

I got myself a Modx7 and I love it . Amazing power, you can have 8 parts with 2 effects on each . Wow that's something !

I already chose the Montage over the Kronos and still very happy with that decision. 🤠

As a professional musician myself, i can only say that Korg fits better in the mix (when playing in a band) because its strong middle range. Yamaha, however is a good brand and MODX is a good instrument.

Korg wins when we are talking about build in quality. MODX is made with cheap plastic, but then again, because of that, its lighter to carry. You should also google the MODX volume knob issue. It gets bended easily, and it is soldered straight to the main board of the instrument. Many users of MODX broke their volume knob because its big and not very well build. After that, you have basically a broken instrument because you need then chance the whole main board, not only the volume knob!

The lifetime of Korg Kronos is / was 15 years and still many had issues with already after 5 years of use. Same goes with Nautilus, which have the same engine than in Kronos.

These all instruments are basically software instruments with plastic keys. So, keep in mind, the lifeline of these instruments is not going to be very long. 10-15 years just like with computers.

This is the new trend how most of manufacturers build their instruments and there are several reasons for that. It's sad, i know.
That's why i still buy vintage instruments. However, Nord is a quite good brand because they made their instruments to last time.

Thx and people, do your homework when buying a instrument(s)
The "sound" is just part of the package.

Some of the presets in Nautilus are really outstanding. The beats and the accompaniment.

Amazing demonstration. Both are highly capable keyboards. I own the MODX7 and am very happy with it.

I used to be a Korg guy but I moved to Yamaha as soon as I put my fingers ob the MODX and every day I discover something new and amazing of this tremendous synth, with definitely more potential than the over priced Korg.

The MODX wins by a mile (Baby Montage). The Nautilus is a great sounding synth but it's no Industry Standard MODX/MONTAGE.
Thanks for the comparison Woody. Loved it. It's always a pleasure to hear you play, Thanks Again

Woody: Uploads a video on the new Nautilus and Yamaha MODX

Roland: Here's a new library for the FA-06/08.

Hey Woody, nautilus sounds good but when you play on modx, i know i get the correct instrument. Modx sounds nicer and more depth than nautilus.

Woody this was a very nice relaxing set. The MODX has a nice stereo field and the drums have more presence. The MODX sounds like it is already mixed and ready to go where as the Nautilus would require more work in the mix.

Yamaha sounds warmer and more interesting. I have the montage. But when the price goes down (a lot) i will be interested.

Hmm...I definitely liked the sounds I've heard from the Nautilus, but the MODX takes the win on this one. More depth, more variety, more interesting sounds.

The price gap is huge. So the fact that this is the obvious comparison is a huge win for Yamaha. I’m going to call the synth side a tie. I’m predicting that the nautilus has a slight edge in bread and butter sounds and build quality. Yamaha has an edge in live controls and interface. Korg has an edge in sequencing. I’m waiting to call connectivity until I know more about Korg’s midi/USB/USB audio capabilities.

For these kinds of sounds, I think they both sound equally good.

I have a Kronos already, adore it. I'd be tempted by the MODX as a way of getting Yamaha sounds to compliment it.

Yamaha hands down. I have a Kronos and plan on getting the MODX for live gigs due to the weight, price and ease of use. I think Korg missed the point of the Nautilus. It's still rather heavy and costs way too much for the market share they're going after.

This Nautilus has a substantially different/fresh soundset versus the Kronos😲
