To everyone saying that Conductors are not important. Yes true on smaller system this would work but NYC system is to large and Conductors are vital for the public safety, systems time and efficiency. In NYC its all about speed and efficiency via public demands...hence time is $. The MTA has to have a reason for EVERY lateness, its has to report EVERY lateness to the Federal Government. How is one Train operator going to handle 1200-1500 people by themselves? You have no idea how tuff it is. I do. when things are smooth its easy but when things happen no joke. and you have to have valid reason and explanation for how you handle a situation. everything is about timing and accuracy.

I wish one day someone teaches rookies to learn how to be train conductor.

Props to the MTA for keeping the conductor when the rest of the world is going driver only or straight up automated. Fuck that.

Very similar to the PATH PA5 controls which are either out in the open or inside the cab. But don’t film the operations of the PATH door controls as photography is (ridiculously) banned on that system.

I never knew they close the doors for both sides of the train

Weirdly, on the NYC Subway's trains that have two 5-car sets coupled together, the guard/conductor doesn't close the doors of both trainsets at the same time. Instead, they check one trainset and close the doors for that, and then do the same for the other one. This looks awkward and is kind of antiquated in this day and age. And it takes more time to close the doors. OPTO can and does forcefully fix this problem. However, even without OPTO, they can have the conductor live camera feeds of the whole platform, and after seeing that the whole platform is clear, the conductor can close all the doors of all cars simultaneously with the press of one button. Or they could have the guard/conductor at the back of the train instead of the middle so that there is only one side of doors to see. I have never seen the closing of doors of one trainset after another anywhere outside NYC.

How does the CR signal to the TO it's safe to go - does the removal of the key trigger the buzzer in the TO's cab. The CR in this video didn't use the 'buzzer' button.
