I just realized, did Shrek notice the fact that things exploded when he tooth-sparkled, and tried to do the same with the log so he didn't have to chop it, only for it to backfire and cause his own head to explode?
I was so confused by that part, but now it makes sense why he threw away the axe and his head exploded.
Even after approximately 5 rewatches (Through reactions, mainly), there are still things to discover in the movie!

Is it a sin that I like this cover of All Star better than the Smash Mouth version? The Smash Mouth version’s been overplayed that I’d rather listen to this cover of the song instead.

Update: I actually like both versions now and listen to this as an alternative. R.I.P. Steve Harwell. May your song live on through frequent playings on the radio, internet memes and different covers like this one.
