I’m going to offer John a bigger sawstop to move next door to me.

Everyone needs an Elder John in their life. He is freaking awesome.

As a millennial, I thought I would prefer John's build. However, I found John's build more aesthetically pleasing.

Elder John's cabinet has a warmer vibe reminiscent of a whiskey barrel. And his hidden feature is really funny, and he did it himself.

During the video I was more inclined to your cabinet, younger John. But the reveal of finished products immediately changed my mind. True, yours look more polished and is, by all means, piece of furniture.
But older John's one seems to have soul. I genuinely like that.

Old John has such a natural gift of talking on camera. Protect him at all cost.

I think your next challenge should be for you and John to challenge another two-person team online. You two obviously have amazing chemistry so to partner up would make a fun watch. Go Team “John Squared”!

Old John’s cabinet is aesthetic as hell. The patina and look of aged weathered wood is just something magical to me. Also for something like a “wine cabinet” something that gives the appearance of age seems to compliment the product going in it. Old looking cabinet=finely aged wine

Man, you've hit on a perfect format. I could watch you and John work together on anything. What a blessing that you have an elder friend who is such a kind soul.

Elder John’s speech patterns bring back so many memories of my dad making me watch “This Old House” for some reason. He’s so soft spoken and it just warms my soul

It is amazing what a person can build out of wood if they learn the basics. I took a 3-day hand tools carpentry class at a school that focuses on old methods and skills. Several years later, I needed to build a barn for my goats: 12ft x 24ft. I did all the work by myself - a 65 year old female who had used my carpentry skills some but never to design and build such a large project. There was only one problem I had and ended up getting professionals to fix it was the tin roof. The roof sloped 3 inches across the narrow side of the building for rain run off. I tried to do it myself but had to call in professionals because my roof leaked and all the solutions I got from other builders didn't work. In less than 4 hours, the 2 men took the old tin roof off, put down 2 × 6s on top of my ceiling rafters and used longer sheets of tin. No more leaks. I used battery powered drill, hammer drill (fantastic toy - I didn't even know they existed), and circular saw. All of them cut through the 2×6s and the Smartboard I used as siding. I now just have to build the 2 dutch doors and and other 4 stalls on the other side. I had to wait for the building to dry out well after the leaks and to give my shoulders a rest from using the power tools. The goats love it and I have used it several times for first time goat moms to give birth in. The are protected from weather and predators. Thank you for encouraging everyone to stretch their imagination and built neat stuff!

The best thing about this video is how wholesome it is when you and John work together in your shop.

This time, a definite tie. Both were unique and beautiful in their own ways. Your spirit of generosity, however, nearly brought tears to my eyes. What incredible people you both are and what a terrific video this was. Thank you for taking the time, while looking after your sick daughter, to put this gem together.

Who won? I think that we all did.

It’s truly a joy to watch you and John work alongside each other. Can’t wait for the next one.

Protect your neighbor at all costs. Cool neighbors like John are truly a rare thing.

Your neighbor is awesome!!!! More please!!!

CHALLENGE:
Young John uses pallets/neighbor John uses high quality wood.

Is there a way to build him a shop table that rolls out of the shed? And collapses when not in use?

I started in a 10x10 shed at age 14 making wooden toys and puzzle boxes. Kinda brings me back. I'm torn, but the taller cabinet is just a little better in every category and more likely to actually go in my house.

John's liquor storage cabinet was a clear winner! Absolutely love these videos. One can never have enough friends in life.

Here’s an idea for a competition: each of you must make a project with only 5 (or any predetermined limited number) of the tools from your shops. Can’t touch any of the others. That would bring the imagination to life! 😁
