It's absolutely amazing how close we become with our pets. Since Shannon was a dog, I know all us dog lovers really feel like they are without a doubt family. It's the joy they bring to our lives that cannot be replaced.

Rest in Peace my best Friend Kiawah an American Eskimo ( 2012 - 2023 ) she passed on Saturday and we were all there to be with her in her final moments. The tears have flowed as I played this song.

My little dog Simone past away since 2 days and this song make me cry, I feel very lonely without her, I'd adopted this little thing when she was 6 weeks, and we lived together 13 years. I'd lost my best friend 24/07/23. Sorry for my bad English, I'm from Québec ...😥😥

I always liked this song but I just found out it was about losing a beloved dog. Makes me love it even more.

This song tears me apart.
If you've ever had a special dog, one that you've kept for a long time. Like my black Lab Charlotte. Nobody has to tell you how hard it is to lose them.

A really, no I mean REALLY great dog is something you never get over. My dog Ali died in 1986, and I still miss him almost every day. I hope when my time comes, he's the first one to run up and greet me...

Our 17 year old cat died Thursday evening. This song is helping me get thru my grief. Beautiful song, but especially meaningful to people who lose their pets. They are family.

We had just put down our border collie due to cancer. Brewster was 15yrs old. We buried in our backyard and planted a fig tree on top which he always layed under on hot days. I have played this several times as I loved it back in the 70's

I am completely heartbroken. I had to have my Rosie put down tonight. This song instantly came to mind. My sister was 13 years older than me, therefore I grew up with her music. For that I am thankful. I miss you my girl.

Wow! I didn't know this song was about a dog. A dog is such a family part. You never know how much you love until they drift away from us.

This is one of my favorite 70s songs and never forgotten. It always brings tears to my eyes. I've listened to it multiple times in the last few days following the loss of a kitten my family was caring for. Anyone who has ever lost a pet can relate to it, I believe.

I lost my black lab, Dutchess in 2003 to cancer. I still cry for her and have never gotten another dog since, because I can’t get over her. She was the sweetest and funniest dog. RIP, my sweet girl 😢

The other day, my sweet elderly neighbor of 15 years (Cheryl), had to put her beloved dog (Levi) down. I grew up listening to this song without ever knowing the meaning behind the lyrics. I randomly woke up this morning thinking of it and decided to look up the meaning. Before Cheryl put Levi down, I wouldn't have 'felt' this song. After losing Levi, I totally feel it. Levi was the sweetest, soft hearted, loving dog I've ever known in my life and everybody in the community knew & loved him. Cheryl would talk about how he saved her life after she lost her husband. My 7 children grew up petting and loving Levi. My 27 year old son was one of Levi's favorite humans. Levi loved everybody but my son worked at the complex Cheryl lives at and would see Levi every single day. My heart hurts so much for Cheryl and this song completely makes sense to me now. "RIP, precious Levi."
