'Shannon' Animated Video 2024

Upon hearing my song "Shannon" my talented buddy, Drazen Alcocer, was immediately inspired to create this touching video. He really captured the emotion of the song. "Shannon" was recorded in 1976 and reached #6 on the Billboard charts garnering a Gold Record for sales of over a million copies.

My late, great friend, Beach Boy Carl Wilson, told me he had a beloved Samoyed Dog called "Shannon", that was hit by a car and killed. I had an Irish Setter by the same name and not long after, when inspiration came, the song appeared quickly, as if it was channeled through me. A truly magical experience! Nearly fifty years on I'm sincerely grateful it remains a source of comfort and hope to many dog lovers worldwide when saying goodbye to their loyal companions.

The bond between a dog and a human is beautiful and powerful. Losing a pet hurts as much as losing a loved one. I'm a grown man in tears from this song. God created dogs that couldn't speak so they could teach humans that love, and loyalty is shown by actions, not words.

OK, funny story, I was 13 when this song came out and one day I was mowing the grass and had these raggedy little earplugs from a transistor radio in my ears and this song came on And you know what happened next. That’s right I started crying my eyes out! And my mom is looking at me out the window like what in the hell is wrong with this kid.
