David Bowie Choreographs Mike Garson - August 2, 2002

Take a look at this amazing video clip I just found! Here we were in Long Island at the Jones Beach Theater in 2002, near where I lived in the late 1970s. At this performance, and out of the blue, I decided to extend the ending of "Changes" without David having any idea it was coming. And look at what that genius did! He choreographed a Bowie Ballet to my insane piano improvisation. No rehearsal. No discussion. Just the two of us. No rock group has ever done that - no less even the jazz world which is more formulaic. This was pure joy and improv. Being in the NOW. I hope it tickles you like it did me. Enjoy!

The consummate performer! I see some of Lindsay Kemp's stagecraft in David's impromptu performance. Nice to see Mike keeping him on his toes with a little improv!
