Does it really write stuff in the registry? I'm guessing the group policies didn't exist in Windows 98, but I'm just curious. Because if they did, it might change them instead, no?

MS-DOS is an operating system. Windows 9x uses MS-DOS as the "core" of the operating system. Windows NT was designed to remove DOS from the operating system, to make it a "true" OS.

Make sure you have a fast processor (around 2 GHz and preferably multi core or even hyperthreaded), and make sure in your vpc program you give the computer as much RAM as possible.

Also, the OS you are trying to run will vary heavily on your performance, so make sure it's nothing after Windows XP otherwise your virtual machine will be pretty slow.

It's either on a really old pc and he formats his disk every time or it's on a virtual machine so he has nothing to worry about.
