I was a painter on the Golden Gate bridge painting one day coming up on a pocket in the steel I’m face-to-face with the mother of a barn owl she had three babies in there I moved away and left them alone. Those eyes right in my face was awesome. This was 200 ft up on a swing stage.

I always love BBC Earth British TV in general. You don't see much documentaries here in the US as they tend to concentrate locally. But with the British TV, there's a lot to choose from.

They're like assasin birds. Silent and can detect enemies in hiding. It's awesome

What impressed me most about the final clip wasn't the owl's flying skills. Wolves have excellent hearing, and even they couldn't hear her diving at them. That's incredible. It grants some compelling insight into why nothing wants to mess with a large adult owl.

Owls have barbs on their first primary feathers which break up the wind to muffle the sound. Not just being graceful but their feather design is mainly why they have silent flight. Slightly mentioned in the video, low wing loading (small, light body with big wings) also helps generate lift in flight.

Owls are such beautiful and unique creatures. I love barn owls especially - they look so mysterious and enchanting. And the fact that they fly so silently is just magical. If reincarnation is a thing, then I would like to be a barn owl!

One night I was driving a truck from Scotland down to Teeside England. Close to the border, you come to a roundabout where you can go straight on into Berwick or turn right, up the hill, headed towards Newcastle.
As I started up the hill a Barn Owl came out of the trees and flew directly in front of the windshield for what seemed like 10-15 seconds. He was only a few feet in front of the truck and I had the most wonderful view of him. It's a moment and memory I'll never forget.

I have always loved owls. Such hauntingly, beautiful masters of the night. Since i was a child growing up in Zimbabwe, I would always get so excited when one of our Spotted Eagle Owls would land in the garden.

Magnificent, beautiful creatures; their soundless flight or the air raid on the wolf are to be truly admired. Owls are my favorite birds - thank you for posting this wonderful video.
