I actually live near Lake Berryessa. I was on the lake in August and never did actually see a hole.

They're called Bellmouth spillways, they are designed on a lot of dams so it doesn't overflow. I think they are really cool

I used to go camping and boating for a few weeks every summer when I was a kid at Lake Berryessa. They say that it’s a dammed up lake, burying an ancient Indian village underneath. The water is so thick and green and murky that you can’t see even 6 inches into the water. People drowned there and are never found again quite often. I imagine the number of bodies at the bottom of lake Berryessa is quite substantial. Every time I was there, I would get the chills. Even with a lot of family around, having fun and swimming and eating barbecue, things always felt very unsettling to me there…
