This video demonstrates multiple camera body defects repairs. It is for the camera enthusiasts and lovers of old cameras who NEVER GIVE UP.
On this occasion we use a 40+ year old Rolleiflex SLX2 with the following problems:
-Film chamber door latch broken -Cleaning the focus screen
-Cleaning the mirror -Leatherette cover coming off
-Battery not working after 40 years
-Light meter button missing
-Door latch buttons replacement

Many of these fixes are common to other cameras, where in the second decade of the 21st Century you have little or no chance of finding spare parts. So, you are on your own. Here is your rescue manual with plenty of tips and tricks for the do-it-yourself method.

Forget about the idea of getting "professional repair" done for these kinds of problems. Where are the old "professional" camera mechanics today? Retired, demoralized, expensive, reclusive?

Take control, gather up the courage, turn into a modern day McGyver, get your hands dirty and learn the tips and tricks.
If you have any questions, comments or corrections, it will be greatly appreciated.

At the TechHeritage Museum we have over 300 cameras from 1901 to 2015 and Mobile phones from mid-1980’s to 2015. We clean-up, repair, test, use and display both physically and through online videos on the TechHeritage YouTube channel. Through this process we come across all kinds of problems, which need to be solved.

Our motto is “NEVER GIVE UP”. So, even when it is easier to discard an item and get another one online that works, we prefer to restore everything we get. Through this process we get to know each item intimately and practice the art of restoration in general.

The technology heritage will eventually be seen in the same light as the marble statues from Greece and Rome. There will be specialists restoring them, starting with the discovery of how they ever worked through such intricate mechanisms. We are a small part of that process.

If you have a request for a quick fix, please let us know in the comments and we will share our experience, if any. Please support us by subscribing, liking and sharing. The algorithm loves it. If you are interested in preserving the technological heritage of the last 100 years or so, please consider donating to the TechHeritage channel. No, not money. We do not need your money. By donation, we mean forgotten technology that is collecting dust in your old desk in the basement. It may be an old camera, an early mobile phone or even an early transistor radio. It probably won't work. But that is fine.

Please mention in your comments below. We will contact you and organize shipment. We will then produce a video on that item in your name and thank you.

Something magical about SLX II - like Rolleiflex 75mm 3.5F Planar. Just something... unusual. And like @aladinniazmand2070 said, be careful on cleaning.

Hmmm - didn't understand about making it snug - why would tape (not shown on actual battery) either side of the battery make it work?

Why be so carefull with the mirror cleaning? If the silvered surface is under the glass wouldn't a glass cleaner work just as well?
