BTW Super 8 footage is real. No cool filter, but the real deal. Thanks Iñigo Nieto for that.

Whoever disliked this 15 minute video that was posted only 6 minutes ago deserves to have all their film reticulate for the next 1, 000 rolls.

The perfect camera for me! And contrary to what many say, I don't think the electronics on the Rolleiflex 6008 and 6003 are that bad (especially the last versions, the 6008 integral I, II and AF, and the 6003 Professional). I have been personally shooting these cameras exclusively for the past 5 years and carry a 6003 with me everywhere, everyday (literally) in my backpack. The past 4 years I have been working in India and have been shooting during monsoon time, in the Himalayas and in arid deserts. It never failed me (unlike the beautiful but in my experience more sensitive Blads before), and It had to endure quite some beating. It is build like a tank, you can get it serviced with Paepke or DW Photo, and once the battery cells are replaced you can easily shoot 10+ rolls until you have to recharge it. As I only shoot in manual mode and always carry two batteries, a version without batteries would be nice (with the same ergonomics and sturdiness - and without dark slide to loose), but in the absence of it, this is my kind of camera! You don't need most of the features, but it is the intuitive and robust camera I have been always looking for and in case you need some special features, be sure the Rollei has it!

Flash sync: it does up to 1/1000s with PQS.

Am I the only one imagining a world where Film cameras were made for four years longer and Mamiya and Rolleiflex merged and made an RZ with all these functions

There are at least 30, 40, 50, 60, 75, 80, 90, 100, 110, 120, 150, 180, 250, 300, 350, 500 and 1000 mm as Prime-Lenses from Schneider-Kreuznach and Zeiss - so there should be enough to choose from. The cheaper ones are branded Rolleigon. There are even some (crazy expensive) zooms available, called „Varigon“, eg 60-140 mm. The older, cheaper lenses are often refered to as HFT-Lenses („leather“, 1/500 flash sync), then there are PQ (1/500 flash sync), PQS (1/1000 flash sync) and AF (Autofocus) and AFD (Autofocus without manual aperture) for the Rollei 6000 system.

I had one for a bit, a monster with a shutter so loud it sounds like air and light are being sucked into the chamber! Beautiful camera.

I think You can still get the Battery new from DW- Photo. They took over the original Rolleiflex Buildings in Braunschweig and because of the they have all the original equipment. The can repair basically all Rollei Cameras Including the 6008 and all the TLRs. So its not a problem to get all these camera fixed and I think not a lot of people now that you can get all these electronic cameras still fixed and serviced without a problem. They also produce the Hy6 mod2 a completely new Medium Format Film Camera with Autofocus and amazing Lenses. The build great collection of lenses new but you can also use all Lenses the 6000 series uses. They Build everything in Braunschweig, Germany and the only Reason they don't are called Rollei anymore is because the owner to the rights of the Name Rollei sold it at some point. They are doing amazing work and are building one of the best Medium Format cameras you can buy completely new.

Had a 6003 SRC1000 back when they came out. I loved it. It was so nice to use, despite the weight. The problem was the leaf shutter motors. I had a lens where the motors would, several days to several weeks after the prior repair warranty expired, would stop fully retracting the blades. It happened 3 times to me on the same lens, requiring me to ship the camera to New Jersey for repair. The glass was simply superb. The meter was totally accurate and reliable. The handling was really well thought out and professional, albeit a little heavy. If you are looking at a 6000 series camera and see the tips of the shutter blades showing when looking through the lens (not taking a photo), avoid that lens. I remember the first wedding I shot with it. Uncles with their puny SLRs that would normally follow you around and copy all your shots would just scatter at the sight of this thing. It absolutely screams, "I am a pro. Do not mess with me."

I owned an older version of this camera for 5 years, the 6008 Professional. Amazing camera, built like a tank and the metering and handling is fantastic. If you want to shell out the money, there is also an 80mm f2 normal lens available for it as well.

I have had 6008 Professional for a couple of years now, and while I have not shot as much with it as I would like, the images I have gotten (both color & B&W) have been the best quality film captures I have ever captured. I have been. using film off and on for over 50 years and this is the best system I have ever used. I had a brief stint with a 500 C/M (rental) years ago and I was not blown away by the image quality like I expected. I probably did something back then to undermine the quality of the capture. Having said that, even though my 6008 is bigger and heavier than that 500 was, the grip on the side makes all the difference in the handling. To me, without the grip it feels more clumsy than the Hassy, and with the grip feels much more agile. The controls, as you pointed out, are all within easy reach, and facilitate very fast image capture. To me the real difference is in the metering. How many medium format cameras are out there with multi-spot metering? Are there any others? I don't even know. I found the metering to be spot on and the detail and contrast levels were excellent. Very happy with mine, and I don't worry about the electronics failing. If it happens, it happens. I will deal with it then. I may invest in a second body because it is worth it. Currently have 2 backs, a 45 degree 6006 prism, the WL finder, multiple batteries (recalled with NiMH), the standard 80 mm and a recently acquired 50 mm f4. Almost forgot the extension "tube" with the electronic contacts that makes close up photography effortless. Great system.

With the Hasselblad, if you've changed your mind after the mirror lock up, you can actually put the dark slide back in, remove the back, trigger the camera and wind it without wasting the shot. Then you can put the back back on and go on with your life.

HOWEVER, when you reinsert the dark slide in while the camera is in mirror up mode, the slide won't actually trigger the safety mechanism on the back. Which means when you reinsert your back, it will be possible to take a shot even though the dark slide in place. You can fix this by removing and reinserting the dark slide.

I wish you would have shown the camera as you were describing features

Hello Nico, excellent report, indeed Rolleiflex 6008I is a great device designed for professionals in 1988 in an intelligent and intuitive way, truly infallible and light years in relation to other brands of medium format. Although there is a lot to say, I think it is important to point out that although it is electronic, it can also be used manual, that the roll holders have the ISO information that is transmitted to the body and that it is in a double format 645 vertical or horizontal that gives 16 frames per roll. In fact, the only point against is the batteries but they have a remedy, finally if electronics are used properly it does not have to fail, it is a matter of common sense to take care of the equipment. A success is the report with the images obtained in practice.

I've got this camera. I love it. I have only the 80 planar. It is solid like a stone. The light meter is perfect. With a new battery I can shot a lot of rolls. Lenses are state of the art. So.. it's a great camera and lenses.

I had a 6008 for some time.I had already fallen in love with the handling and this ingenious grip. Unfortunately, an electronic error turned out. It was still under warranty on the camera, I took it back to the dealer. Result: Economic total loss. As I have already made the experience with other devices. Mechanically built for eternity, electronics maybe 30 years. Then I switched to a fully mechanical Rolleiflex TLR.

The PQ-S lens can flash sync at 1/1000 because like the PQ lens it to uses leaf shutters.( It's the type of shutter that denotes the ability to sync flash at any speed) the confusion is that focal plane shutters usually have a maximum shutter of this speed because as you know flash can't be used at this speed with this type of shutter.

The reason PQ-S lenses can sync at 1/1000 is because they utilize lightweight leaf shutters made of carbon fiber!

I would imagine wedding and portrait photographers would love the faster shutter speed for fill-in flash outdoors in harsh sunlight.

Nice review - seems like a superb camera! Seems interesting that everyone is jumping on the Mamiya RZ67 but won’t go to these despite both being electronic
