I'm sick and tired of just *not* living in Toronto right now so I can just talk with you guys about this all day. At least I can watch this video!

Last time I was this early, Elf was still a class.

Wizards did state that if a subclass was not in the new books to just use the prior books that had it. But if the subclass was in the new books with changes then you are "supposed" to use the new version. Of course when it comes to games with friends your group/DM can decide anything anyway.

I can’t wait for the new books. I’ve only spent $150 on this hobby* since 2014, so bring them on!

Thanks Dudes! I’ve been having a rough week and this was the pickup I needed.

I think it's like when Monsters of the Multiverse came out and they redesigned races. Aarakocra, for example, began to refer to this new version, while the usual Aarakocra became Legacy. I suppose that the 2024 rules are simply 5e and the ones that change their name are those of 2014, becoming "5e Legacy"

I would love for you to rank all the revised and new subclasses in the books and compare them to your previous subclass rankings.

I think that "5e revised" is not that far from "2e remastered" that pathfinder got (comparing names and actual backward compatibility).

I remember 3 to 3.5, the Spiked Chain getting Nerfed along with the Haste spell were absolutely necessary

I think there are many reasons to want to switch to the 2024 revision. They've taken 10 years worth of feedback and play-testing, re-balanced every area, added interesting new mechanisms and content, given players more choices, improved the organization, and added loads of beautiful new artwork. The whole point of playing D&D is to have fun, and this sounds like even more fun.

"Won't need much prep" is a good rule of thumb. Hell, a couple weeks ago our local game store tables were full when a store DM called in sick, so I oulled out "B1 In Search of the Unknown" and ran it on the fly for 3 hours. 5e is overall pretty robust and elegant any way you slice it 😀

really really wants to hear you guys talk about the sea Druid and the dance bard

Fundamentally, it is more useful to think of the 2024 versions the same way you think of Tasha's and Xanathar's: variant races, variant classes, variant rules, and a couple new optional sub-systems. The actual systems (combat, social interaction, exploration) are all the same as 2014, and the DC scaling is all the same.

Forget all the negative comments, I'm excited for the updated rules. As far as old videos you could revisit, I'd be curious to see you guys discuss the warrior classes (Barbarian, Fighter and Monk) and see if you still feel they underperform in the orher pillars without magic.

This video is so helpful and fun! You go through all of the key points in a thoughtful and friendly way.

I would love it if you continued with your ranking of all the spells. Really enjoyed those videos! Perhaps discuss the ones that has changed in the new rulebook as well.

Iunno why they didn't go with "50th Anniversary Edition"

one thing I would say about the apothecary class is that the new Tasha's Bubbling Cauldron spell is a very apothecary-centric spell. One of my players is using the apothecary class, so I'm giving them that spell as an always-prepared once-per-day class feature (not sure exactly which level yet, likely in the 11-14 range).

I think the one I want to see the most is how to build the best Gish character.
