MSI GF62VR 7RF Gaming Laptop Review and Benchmarks

The GF62VR 7RF gaming laptop from MSI that’s a little different than other MSI laptops. Along with its grey interior it’s got an Nvidia 1060 graphics card and Intel 7700HQ CPU, so we’ll see how these perform in the gaming benchmarks component of the review. I’ll take you through the features of the laptop, what I liked and didn’t, discuss the thermals, battery life, heat, and how loud the laptop fans get.

MSI sent me this laptop for a few weeks to review, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

I bought this laptop and would recommend undervolting the CPU core to include redo the thermal paste and pads. I undervalued the core (-.175). Im hitting an average of 75C. Its very difficult to change the paste and pads as you have to take out the mother board. I used about 175mm of thermal pads. (I bought 100mm of 1.5mm and 100mm of 1mm) the thermals for you gpu are also high, im hiting around 65C. When redoing the thermal past i noticed it was poorly done. If you would like more info message me back. This is.a very well designed laptop just a to much power going to the core. Awesome review.

I've bought almost the same laptop a week ago, MSI GL62MVR 7RFX, I have noticed too that the touchpad gets too hot, even on normal use, I suppose it's because of the NVMe drive sitting right under the touchpad.
As for the benchmark, I have an i5-7300HQ and GTX1060 3gb, the only game that I play currently is GTA5 Online, at 1920x1080p on normal settings, it would be a stable 60fps on story mode, in Online mode, it depends on how many players are in the lobby and where are you placed in the map, but usually it's around 60fps

I have this laptop since 2 years and I can say that this is the worst laptop I ever had. Since I purchased it, only problems. For playing games and stuff, it is good, if the rest would just work. The power cable which you get with the laptop, burnt down, nearly literally speaking. I had to buy a new one. But the power cables for this laptop are made cheaply, so I need to replace it once a year. Also the laptop gets very hot and burns the inside and outside case, which is a huge problem. The cooler system is a half joke unfortunately. Also I have noticed that the cables, screws, and so on, inside the laptop are very loose. Which is another problem. The parts which they used, like the graphic card, and motherboard, ... are good, it's like you put gold and diamonds in a plastic bag. Now in reality, it would work, but for a laptop, this is deadly.

This is the same but it has 8GB ram and and 3GB video ram its £899.97 not sure if its worth it or not.

This video has helped me a lot and finally bought this one. And I also get the similar performance as mentioned in this video.
Witcher 3 is a game where FPS deeps in few areas but overall for 1080p the GTX 1060 is a really good card. But for the other games including AC Origins the performance is really good.

95 degrees and 50+ decibal fans is a joke.

Next gen 15 watt cpu's might be the way to go. Much less heat and a boosted Ryzen 7 2700u or Intel i7 8550u offers similar if not better performance than a 7700hq.

This is the shittiest laptop i have ever bought. It spent more time in service center than on my lap. Also, MSI service sucks, there's only one service center in delhi. It takes a month or so for each service. Today it completely died after just 2 years. Wasted $2000. I won't buy MSI product again.

YANR - Yet Another Nice Review!
I like the Alu Top on this MSI the most. And the buttons bellow touch-pad. Mine does not have it.
