Two reasons.
1. Not all clubs are mono and more and more are becoming stereo. Subs are mono-99% of the time
2. Luca works on high profile artists that have the majority of their work played on every media available

Extra bonus tip-don’t stick to mono only- just make it translate as best it can on mono

I appreciate the effort on your part in such a great explanation, which is absolutely correct.
I want to assume that the condition of the audios to be treated under this technique must be perfectly phased and correlated with the rest of the mix in order to really enjoy a good immersive result... I will watch the video a second time in case I missed the mention.

it is interesting how nobody talks about the root or under what condition a stereo audio should be before applying this technique... especially this kind of videos where most of them are beginners or developers...I can guarantee you that applying this technique under an audio with masking or phasing problems, can be really frustrating.
My recommendation to be able to add to our mixes is to "sanitize" and make decisions on how the phase correlation should behave before.
to be able to have results that can behave correctly in a MONO or STEREO environment without the need to create results for different scenarios... which is totally false.
see for yourselves...
take an audio under a phasing problem and convert it to mono... you will see what I am talking about... there is no solution other than to provide a healthy behavior to the audio before applying those techniques. great contribution about mid/side technique. thank you

I always thought we are meant to boost the highs on the sides?

I don't understand why someone would make a wide mix for club music when it's going to be played through a mono sound system?
