12 Things The Minions Rise Of Gru Changed From Despicable Me

The Despicable Me franchise has been around for over a decade now with the first film being released all the way back in 2010. Then, the Minions films were born out of Gru and his Gorls. The most recent Minions film—The Minions Rise of Gru—bridges the gap between Minions and Despicable Me.

The film follows child Gru in the 1970s chasing his dreams of not only becoming the best supervillain of all time but attempting to become a part of the famous supervillain group, the Vicious 6. It also follows the early days of Gru and the Minions and how he went from Mini-Boss to Boss in the Despicable Me movies. All while dealing with the magical stone thats causing chaos in the city.

But despite Rise of Gru being a part of the Despicable Me universe there are plenty of differences between the film, and the Despicable Me films we already know. From new characters, seeing our favorite characters in different ways, changing settings, and even a new minion to love, The Rise of Gru introduces so many new aspects to the world of Despicable Me.

Make you let us know in the comments if you’ve noticed any other differences between Rise of Gru and Despicable me. Do you think the film would have been better if it wasn’t made during the pandemic? Spoiler alert:About Gru house, I’m thinking that he build that house to memorate is 1st super vilain fan, because if you saw his house(the captain of vicious 6 who got kicked)got his house destroyed but we saw a chair that is exactly the same has gru when he active to go into basement

It's ironic how Wild Knuckles said "shoot for the moon", and years later, takes it.

Edit: um thanks for almost 500 likes

I personally believe that Wild Knuckles might actually be Gru's biological grandfather, who abandoned his kid to pursue his villainy. Said child being... Gru's mother.
Either that or he used his real last name as his first, and dropped the E.
Ergo his last name could be Wilde, thus being Lucy's Grandfather. Who's kid ended up joining AVL out of contempt for his father abandoning him for villainy.
Now THAT would be an interesting tie in, Gru being related to his idol whether direct or through marriage.

Also if the minions movie took place in 1968 (when they meet scarlett overkill to the end where they meet gru) and how the minions rise of gru took place in 1976, that means that gru was 3 years old when he stole the crown from scarlett overkill at the end of the minions.

The movie Minions, Rise of Gru, is unequivocally the greatest film of the decade, for now I question whether I, and humanity as a species, are worthy of this life changing masterpiece. Immaculate, extravagant, and brilliant are nowhere near enough to describe this film. This movie was truly encompassing of all emotions, along with profoundly polished animation, near flawless lip-syncing, and subtle and powerful moments of comedy. The scene where the minions comply with a request for peanuts by giving not the bag, but a single peanut, made the theater roar with applause, and led to a standing ovation in the middle of the film. In fact, that scene was a subtle criticism of the current economic "situation" regarding inflation, or shrinkflation, to be more accurate. However, the movie also includes more wholesome scenes, such as when the Minions (very graciously) almost crash an airplane with live passengers into an air traffic control tower. My first time watching the film, I ended up shaking, crying, and falling over, while the moviegoers around me began chanting pro-gru chants. When I woke up, I ascended to the astral plane and witnessed millions of human lives being saved because of this masterpiece of a film. Thousands of people fell to their knees at various grocery outlets and fast food chains as applause drowned out the ending credits. "Minions: The Rise of Gru" defines the expansiveness of what we as a civilization can achieve if we dedicate ourselves wholeheartedly to our craftz.

Personally, I think that Otto found the guy on the motorcycle and went with him instead of Gru, which I believe is the answer to why we don't see Otto in the future.

Dreamworks didn't make this movie. They had to change alot of things in here sine Gru is a kid in this era, No Gorls, a new minion member, his childhood home (obivously) different goals, like did you reallly think he always wanted to steal the moon?
Also Dru Gru wasn't a villian, Bratt was the villian in DM3. Everybody knows that. I think you stumbled on some things man. Just saying.

I think we see some otto, he just doesnt have braces which is his iconic look. He is in Despicable Me 3 and is shown stomping on multiple things. I also like how Wild Knuckles house is huge compared to other houses and I assume Gru took inspo on that and did the same thing. This movie was amazing and i wish they made a short film with the uncle and otto

I love that the vicious 6 character designs are very 70s. Which is the time this is set place.

not only gru's mom and dr nefario are young in this movie, in the scene where wild and gru try to rob the bank, the banker showed the picture of him with his nephew who is vector.

I died laughing every time he said “Gorls” 🤣

And also the Minions stopped calling Gru Mini Boss and starting calling him Big Boss at the post credits scene when Dr Nefario and Gru left the scene with Gru's future flying jet.

Did you notice at the end when Knuckles said: "Shoot for the moon"? That could be why he did that.
