Hot Topics in Research Ethics: Ethics of Gene Editing and Genetic Selection by Julian Savulescu

Professor Savulescu will discuss the ethics of gene editing of human beings compared to the genetic selection of embryos. He will argue there is a moral obligation to pursue research into human gene editing and a moral obligation to select the best child (procreative beneficence); outline a translational pathway for ethical first in human trials of gene editing; evaluate recent calls for a moratorium on human gene editing; and discuss the enhancement revolution with the prospect of human moral bioenhancement.
