Comparison of RTL-SDR Blog V3 performance vs Imitation Generic RTL-SDR

In this video, I share two key performance differences between a genuine RTL-SDR Blog V3 dongle and an imitation "generic" RTL-SDR dongle:

1. The frequency error of the Blog version was apparently 1 PPM as advertised, whereas the generic version had a frequency error of more like 62 ppm

2. There was a high pitched tone present on the generic version when receiving narrowband FM signals which was not present on the Blog version

Bottom line: Choose a genuine RTL-SDR Blog V3

Very helpful video! I doubt whether the fake version is able to perform direct sampling of HF frequencies in addition to the other sub parities!

Thank you for this info. I just about bought a fake and canceled the order when I saw this. I then bought the real thing from the factory but because of a covid lockdown in China it will be Late May before it's shipped. I'll wait to get the real thing.

I got a generic from ebay china. Rated from 0.1 mhz to 2 ghz. It wont go under 25 mhz ccrraaapppp

I Have Bought 6 Of The Fake Ones Sadly, Didn`t Know That They Are FAKE And You Know What?|
At The End They Started To Just NOT WORK, I Was Not Able To get Even Local radio Stations, Nothing, But When I Transmitted It From the Sdr like 2 meters away, it received wich was crazy, dont ask about antenna, everything was good, just the sdr itself was bad, software, i have spent 20 hours in total trying to get it fixed and work properly, but no luck.
Today I Ordered The blog version FROM THE WEBSITE that lead me to the ebay and seller naame was (rtl-sdr-blog) And I Think NOW Im Solid, CANT WAIT To Get my Hands On The REAL DEAL, I Have So Many Antennas In Attic ANd So Many AAntennas I Want To test On It.
Btw, I Have A Question, Can I Use Any Active Antenna On This Sdr? Would That Hurt It In Any Way?
Second, I Will Try To Make A Cooler For The Device, I Will Make USB Working Fan For It So When I Will Plug In The SDR Itself, There Will be Another Usb Plug That Will Turn On The Fan, I Have Supersmall Fans, I WantTo Drill Holes To The SDR Case And Just Put The Fan There And Introduce Airflow To It, I Think That Will Help And That Thermal Paste Is Good To, But WITH This Mod It Will Live Much Longer I Think, RIGHT?
