I agree with the subtlety because you also have to consider the EQ on someone’s stereo they’re playing the song on which elevates levels on top of the mastered song

I love your videos as they are super helpful. One major setting / item to uncheck is the Audio Normalization in the advanced settings. If checked it then GarageBand will automatically increase your volume when exporting your mix and you’ll bang your head against the wall trying to master it. I couldn’t figure out why my exported mixes were so much louder and finally I found this thanks to Google. Hopefully this helps someone. Thanks Colin for helping us all out!

Well to be perfectly honest i've used mastering presets when I worked with my porta studio before 😳.
So, this is the last step that I really have to learn and raise my knowledge about and this video was of great help. It's great to discover this different formulas for every step in the mixing process and it's all about knowledge and to grab the whole subject of mixing and learn and practise.

I've been working with GarageBand for the last +5 years, but I got a PC recently and comparing the same recordings with the same settings I've noticed a big quality difference, then I noticed it was because the Sample Rate in my Mac is stucked at 44, 1Khz and for what I know I need to use the biggest rate in order to achieve a good quality once I start adding pluggins etc... So I have to say goodbye to GarageBand and to all the channels that helped me to use it properly, now I'm using Reaper and it's a huge difference, thank you very much!!!

The only information missing is: What should the master track look like before exporting a song to disk before mastering?
