The Christmas Markets in Koblenz, Germany
Показать описание
Discover the Christmas markets at Koblenz in Germany, plus a little tour of this historic city too.
I'll try to pack in as many tips and hints as possible for the first-timer, and the aim is to give you a little inspiration to visit.
Our tour of Koblenz's Christmas Markets starts close to our accommodation, the Sander Hotel, next to the Zentralplatz Christmas Market.
It's just a short stroll to the second of Koblenz's seven markets at Willi-Hörter-Platz. Here the wine flows, or more precisely, the Glühwein. After all, we are on the edge of one of Germany's wine regions, the Moselle. This means you have a choice of grape varieties here.
Just off this little market, there's the Nativity scene.
Step under the archway into the third Christmas Market at Jesuitenplatz; a little later, as dusk sets in, you can look up and catch Koblenz's largest advent calendar in the windows of the town hall.
From here, it's a short walk to the family-orientated Christmas Market at Görresplatz, where a miniature train offers rides around the Historiensäule or History Column, displaying 2,000 years of the city's growth.
From here, we head to the Christmas Markets at Am Plan and Liebfrauenkirche.
We skip the seventh and final Christmas Market to opt for a look around the city, taking in Kunstgässchen, before heading down the cobble lanes until we reach Platz Florinmarkt, before dropping down to the walk alongside the River Moselle.
This will lead us to the German Corner, or Deutsches Eck, where the River Moselle meets the Rhine before making its way out to the North Sea.
High on the hillside, we catch the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress, with the cable car running up to it.
Whilst in this corner of Old Koblenz, we check out the Ludwig Museum and the Basilica of St Castor, before taking a stroll up the River Rhine. We pass the Pegelhaus, Old Prussian government building and Schloss Koblenz.
However, the Christmas Markets call, and we return to Willi-Hörter-Platz, Jesuitenplatz, Am Plan and take a look at the Christmas Market at Münzplatz.
We close the video by returning to Germany Corner and catching the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress illuminated at nig
