I think how AJ handled himself coming in also got him on Vince's good side. Because AJ had his feud with Jericho and lost at Wrestlemania, when most people think he should have won, but Vince had that mentality, no, an outsider isn't coming in and beating one of my tenured guys at Mania. Then Styles had to lose a couple PPV title matches to Reigns, but he never complained, he put in top effort, and had great matches, and Vince knew he had a team player there. And then by the end of the year he was world champion.
