My uncle does this. In fact, he set out a whole banquet on a table with real food in the front yard and left it sitting idle for a few hours for an ancestors’ afterlife feast.

It's fascinating, in China to see all the great variety of printed paper items designed to be burned on Qingming Day. I heard a story, not too long ago, from some of my Chinese friends, about a young fellow who, after burning a paper iPhone for his grandfather, had a dream in which his grandfather appeared, thanking him for the iPhone, but also expressing frustration at not knowing how to use it. A pity these items come without a paper manual these days that could also be burned!

Fun fact, these days due to similar inflation in the Chinese afterlife, the average denomination of notes burnt is in the millions if not billions, catching up to old Zimbabwean notes😂😂😂

It’s an old Chinese believe, nothing scientific, as an atheist Chinese fellow I find it’s a lot of bullshit, similar to many customs of other religions created by humans, please don’t be too sensitive and take it the wrong way, just my humble point of view, thank you.
