Here is how you create one data validation list in Excel based on another data validation list. Example: if you select one state, you only want to see the counties for that state not all 50 states.

Agreed! Just what was looking for and great simple example. Smallish side note - not directly related to this solution, but to the List data validation bit. Excel doesn't like special characters in list names apparently, error: ("...or type a valid name for the selection") Swapped them for underscore e.g.(SOW1_Name_of_Project) and can name a list with that. Thanks Chris

What if I want to add more states? Can I change the selection to include the additional state?

Thank you. This helped me.!!

How can I do a validation for another cell with same value.

e.g. I have sale status as "Not Sold", "Blocked", "Sold" in Column A, In Column B - I need to define what type sale it is "Online" or "Pickup" and I need this to be displayed only if sale status is 'Sold'. for other sale status, I need to show "Not sold" or "TBD". I am able to solve this.

Now I need to define column C the payment status - "Paid" or "Not Paid" if "Sold" in Column A. else "TBD" or "Not Sold" to be displayed in dropdown. Any help will be appreciated.

I cant apply this to Google Sheet. I check Indirect(D2) and it gives same string. But Data Validation doesn't allow me to put the range as Indirect(D2). Sad. :(
