I'm in Maine and harvest my garlic around August 1. I have kind of a large garden so space is not a big issue, so I like to sow at that time daikon radishes both as an interesting crop for the fall but also as a cover crop and natural tillage. The daikons drill deep into the soil then completely die away leaving holes in the ground. Makes the soil real nice in the spring. The daikons are at least where I'm at, not readily available, so a nice culinary veggie to devote garden space to.

We do, Lettuce, Carrots, and loads of Green Beans. Especially the beans. It's hard
to grow them in the Spring as the Japanese Beetles will decimate the plants.
Planted July 10th this year 5wks ago, and they are loaded with blossoms. We'll
harvest daily to keep them coming until 1st frost, then pick the last flush, and
chop n drop the plants in the same bed. This fills the freezer and creates 1 bed
ready to go next Spring.

I pull garlic here right around the first of july, and have been going back in with muskmellon with some fair success the past 5 years.

hey jeff i couldn't help but notice that you had not mentioned flowering plants as companion plants for pea
, i would place it with marigold or hibiscus.

Good idea. I will get Peas seed and plant them this weekend. It gets to be very boring if I have nothing else to do.

"as summer heat subsides"". Haha hahaha. I am outside of San Antonio TX. Summer doesn't seem to subside here until some time in October or even November
