Do you need to spend a combined $400 on this “Schiit Stack”, to enjoy legitimately high end audio? For someone like me, who doesn’t have all that much high end audio gear, is this the best way to do it?

Modius + Asgard 3 for single ended glory

Also, nice review. Definitely subscribing

Did you use these Balanced. it pushes less power into Single ended than the magni 3+. why you should use it balanced plus the benefits of balanced, as there isn't a point buying it without using balanced cables

Good take on this gear. Schiit is just incredible for the price/performance ratio and the stack is everything you have said and more. I've previously worked in the high end audio space as a salesperson, and I recently bought a Fulla 3 as a stepping stone to something like this; it's an amazing value for 100$ and the performance blows away even casual listeners. Thanks for bringing awareness to this amazing company!

I’m running the Modi/Magni 3+, which runs my Tidal streamer, via the data port on my iPhone.
The sound is amazing. It’s some really great Schiit.

The Hel is probably the deal of the century! That thing has POWER for the price and size but honestly there's nothing better at the $400 range than this powerful stack, period.

I am looking into buying the Magnius/Modius stack, however I prefer speakers over headphones. What is your thoughts about getting the Gjallarhorn amp for the stack to drive speakers?

I'm trying to understand how much better something like this actually is, especially not being able to test due to Covid, compared to just plugging your headphones into your phone or laptop. If this is a 10 is just using a phone a 9, or is it far more noticeable and phone only is more like a 7. So good that once you try you could never go back. I'd appreciate some feedback from someone who was on the fence about a DAC and/or amp, and was amazed by the difference, but also someone who bought something similar and felt it was a waste of money. I appreciate this type of thing is very subjective. I've got Beoplay H6 2nd Gen headphones, generally fairly well reviewed.. Thanks.

the balanced connection's SNR is 20 db better than the single ended connections you were using. In fact, only Benchmark's LA4 pre amp measures better than Magnius. The best pre amps from Bryston, Pass, Krell, Pass and Parasound cannot match the Magnius' 125 db SNR and they all cost 20 to 40 times as much

Bought myself the Magni and Modi pair a few years back. One of the best upgrades to my gaming setup I've ever made. The pair sound great.

Having the digital inputs on the DAC allows me to have an input from the nearby TV and watch movies. The amp drives my Beyerdynamic DT990 250ohm phones with ease especially with the gain boost switched on.

For all those you want great audio but on a tight budget pick up an ifi Zen DAC. Amazing product for £130

What's the best way to use the schiit stack, can I use these on or with my PS4 and/or Vinyl player? Or are they better used with computer and/or laptop?

Ok, not a review.. Just "these products exist and they sound great to me.. oh, and you connect headphones to it".

If you're looking for a real review, with analysis of the sound output and some sort of comparison, description of the specs of each in separate and how they interact, the DAC specs, the inputs and outputs possibilities, the AMP specs, then try somewhere else OR RTFM - link in the description :)

Would this be cool to buy if I'm getting started with a Phillips SHP9600? I can't find any answer, maybe because it costs money to learn more seriously about this stuff. I don't care about gaming experience really just want something budget to run with "Phillips SHP9600" that can produce clarity for studio work and give me maybe some EXTRA bass, again... on a budget.

Any thought of IFI dac or IFi zen can /dac setup? and how it compared to Schiit stack?

I wanted to get into better audio than a computer on-board system. I did a lot of research and spent more than I had planned, but it turns out what you gain for the expense is a tremendous benefit -- namely, balanced output from products made a company with a sterling reputation that produces stuff that sounds really good in your ears. I also went in for the 'budget' offering from HIFIMAN (400i) to be able to take advantage of both the balanced output with planar magnetic technology. The result? An experience similar to yours. I did have to invest $550 ($400 Schiit/$150 HIFIMAN), but I feel the money was very well spent and I'm glad I did not settle for less. The Schiit stack also makes my JBL 104 desktop speakers sound phenomenal (using their balanced inputs), as well as driving my older single-ended Koss and Sennheiser headphones impressively (including a pair of Koss Pro-4aas I've had forever and never understood why they were considered so highly in some circles. Now I do.). Absolutely fantastic investment for an audio capability upgrade -- worth every penny. The only drawback is now anything less sounds like shit, which I guess you should expect from owning Schiit. Thanks for a great review!

Btw, the single ended output on Magnius is kinda meh.... (I think it's lower power and running just half of the circuit, it's been mentioned in other reviews and also by Schiit) this amp is made to be used with balanced output so... if you're not using balanced, then you should not bother buying this and just get Magni/Modi or get Asgard/Modi Multibit or Asgard/Bifrost and so on.

If I had the money I'd go for a SMSL SU-8 for a DAC or SU 9 (their new released DAC) and a topping A90 headphone amp although I'm sure the schiit stack does a plenty good enough job. Although funnily enough I've been experimenting with cheap 32 bit 384Khz mobile phone DACs which use the realtek chip, to me they sound better / more detailed than my current topping D50 DAC, which makes no sense. I'm suspecting it may have something to do with the output level being designed for headphones but being fed into high impedance line level inputs.

My problem is I don't know what color i want. The dark looks to dark on my dark wood desk.
