One of the most promising designs in the world AAM (Advanced Air Mobility) claims to be the only eVTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing) jet out there. Fortunately, this is not just a concept, but a real plane packing very advanced battery technology.

Lilium is the German manufacturer that claims to have developed a unique eVTOL jet, using 36 propellers at the fore and aft, plus patented Ducted Electric Vectored Thrust (DEVT) technology. The basic configuration of the Lilium jet is an air taxi that can carry up to six passengers.

In standard configuration, the Lilium jet claims to outperform the others in terms of performance. The German manufacturer has worked for several years with Customcells, experts in battery technology, and is now ready to reach mass production.

Customcells is set to begin producing thousands of battery cells for the Lilium jet per year, Lilium says its eVTOL will feature a high-end battery, with greater energy and power density, and a higher lifespan. This is largely due to the proprietary technology that comes from Ionblox.

Recent independent testing seems to confirm that this battery prototype, developed specifically for the Liliul eVTOL jet, scored a higher energy retention percentage after 800 charge cycles (88% compared to the target of 80%).

Customcells production technology will add its own advantages, such as the pre-lithization process, where extra lithium is added to make up for lithium lost during the first cycle.
