Israel Troops Storm Al Jazeera Office In West Bank, Order 45-Day Shut Down

On September 22, Israeli troops raided the offices of Al Jazeera in the occupied West Bank, ordering the Qatar-funded broadcaster to shut down its bureau for 45 days. Al Jazeera aired live footage of the raid as Israeli forces issued the closure order, marking the first time Israel had shuttered a foreign news outlet within the country. Despite the raid, Israeli forces provided no immediate acknowledgement of the shutdown. Al Jazeera condemned the action and continued broadcasting from its Amman office in Jordan. During the raid, Israeli troops also tore down a banner displayed on the office balcony.
