I share my 1 year self taught piano progress starting as a complete beginner.

I will also talk about the different ways I used to teach myself the piano as well as the drawbacks or disadvantages of learning a music instrument such as piano by yourself.

Impressive how the drawers stay in the same position for a year

I love that you have been wearing the same shirt for the “full year” of you learning piano. At least you changed the jackets every know and again.

I'm self taught I can tell you have had training from a classical pianist who trained you on hand form and fluidity. It's a dead giveaway dude.

Some people start with fingers moving in a mechanical way and playing with "musicality" doesn't come naturally on day 1. The Suzuki method started by the Japanese Shinichi Suzuki tries to teach musicality early. Students learn by imitation (hand positions & listening) before reading notes.
Learning to play naturally in a relaxed way requires watching many hours of videos and comparing performances than simply dive into the piece you want to learn and hope for the best. A lot of people who learn pieces by reading tend to reproduce the notes written on a page but the music may not flow or sound very nice.

I got a piano about a year ago but I dropped it for about 4 months. I was already able to read sheet music, bass clef and treble clef so I can use sheet music. I really love music theory so instead of using my special music powers to improvise I use them to read pieces like Für Elise, Musette and river flows in you and a couple others out of a book I got not too long ago. I love more classical and baroque music and not so much present day pieces although I have learned a few. I don’t think I’m too bad for 8 months in.

GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE. Day one, already knows about key signatures and is playing all of me without sheet music. 29 days later, is playing a completely different song with all 10 fingers engaged with good posture. The mature way of moving across keys to reduce strain in the hand. YEAH DA FUCK RIGHT.

This is amazing and very inspirational!
Seems like everyone on yt that self teaches themselves piano is a prodigy! 😂
But your progress is really motivational. I have a strong passion for piano, and I've been playing for barely 1 years and a half. But I dont own a piano or keyboard so I only get to play it one hour per week which is at class. It's very slow progress and I don't get to play the songs that I want, but the few minutes I can sneak in before class and try a few songs that I like just makes me soooo happy. I'd also like to self teach myself once I get my hands on a keyboard. So with the four hours a month, for a year and a half, I've only reach a grade 2 ABRSM in piano, not yet qualified for exam pieces yet.
Also, Yiruma was one of the biggest reasons that i started learning piano. I fell in love with River flows in you but When the love falls has become one of my favorites as well.
Anyways, thank you for sharing your progress. ❤
